Very interesting Matt,

I will investigate about the jets, strange, that the ad does not indicate the 69 Vette with the 350/350 engine.

Do you know someone who has installed a performance camshaft? It would be nice to know if he had to replace the carb or the jets to get mor fuel in the engine.

The reason why I changed the carburator is, that the engine was chocking in acceleration.

I had never used the car before since I bought it in 1990, other tnan to move it to different storage places and shops.
I did not know the cause of the chocking and replaced all the items, that were worn; spark plugs, ignition wires, coil and distributor with an electronic ignition kit, air cleaner filter, fuel filter, etc. and after I opened the carburator to clean any dirt in it and looking for new gaskets for it I realized, that it was not the original model, that belonged to the engine, I decided to replace it with the correct type and install the original choke system.
After all this work I run the engine again and found out, that I am unable to get the mixture reach enough.
I am also thinking, that maybe the carb I removed, could have been installed in conjunction with a cam performance kit, but I am not sure about it and I have no contact with the previous owner.
It would make sense, that the engine was pumped up since the car was also modified with the headers, fender flares and larger tires.
I also removed the oil pan to see if there was any sludge in it, I always do that on older cars, that I do not know.
I did not find any sludge and noticed, that everything inside on the bottom of the engine was very clean, as if the engine had not run many miles since an overhaul.
Now I am thinking to put back the old carb or maybe first try to replace the jets in the overhauled carb with bigger ones.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you
Stefano

I found strange, thet they installed two different size jets in the overhauled carb.

Thank you Durango,

I have verified the vacum. No leaks found.

At idle the engine is running lean, the mixture screw was adjusted to the max reach and the engine runs better, but not enough.

There is too much air and not enough fuel. It is running too lean and I can’t increase the fuel mixture ratio.

The smoke test unit indicates 0.3%, which is the limit of the stoichiometric ratio. You can tell by the smell of the exhaust gas, that it is lean.

Hello Friends,

I have replaced the carburetor with an overhauled unit from Eckler's and I am unable to adjust the mixture. It is too lean.

The carburetor, that was installed in my car was incorrect for the type. According to the numbers it belonged to a truck.

The book calls for a 7029207

I ordered a replacement rebuilt carburetor Eckler's pn A5918.
The Eckler's catalog indicates, that it will fit 350ci/300hp, but they told me, that it will also fit my 350hp.

I installed it, but I am unable to get the mixture adjusted. It is too lean.
I have checked the two jets inside and they are different. one number 71 and one number 74 (strange).
Also the choke, which is new, is not working good.

Maybe my engine has a performance camshaft and needs a different carburator? I have no way to know if it does.

The carburator I removed is pn 17065439 had an electric choke
The jets on this one are 73's

Any suggestion?

Thank you very much
Stefano

Hello,

Can anyone recognize these fenders?
I bought this car back in 1990 and would like to find out if these fenders were an aftermarket option in the 60's or if it is just a one of a kind mod.

I have American Racing rims, 295/50R15 in the back and 245/60R15 in the front.

Do you think, that someone could have replaced the front of the car with a later model since the air outlets on the sides, behind the front fenders do not have louvers and look more like on a 73 than on a 69 Corvette?
Strange, that it still has the front bumper. Maybe just the side louvers were removed?

Thank you
Stefano

Hi Matthew,

My headers are a little worn and i am planning to remove the air pump and pollution system.

I will keep it like that until the winter and then I might change them.

I saw some ceramic coated headers on Corvette Central's website. Thw entire system headers to mufflers costs around $650.

Has anyone tried that system?

I would like to know how the rear pipes on your dad's car are attached to the body.

Thanks from the help.

Thank you very much for the fast reply.
I have purchased the car back in 1990 when I was leaving in Hermosa Beach, close to where you are.
I brought it to Switzerland and had it partially restored and then kept it in storage.
The car is not stock, wide fenders and wheels and no louvers on the sides. Engine and transmission could be original.
It is very basic. No ac, no power windows, just power steering. Did they all have it? There is a company here, that produces an electric power steering. They say, that it is better, lighter, gets harder yo turn when you drive fast like on modern cars.
I will post some pictures of the car.
I will try to call that McJack. I have found headers at summit and Corvette Central. The difference from my headers is, that the they go down straight and make a sharp bend under the car. My headers go down in an angle. I think, that mine are probably better for performance.
Mine are just a little worn and since thea are very light, the flanges on the bottom where they mate with the intermediate pipes, are slightly bent.
In addition they have the air pump manifold tubes welded on them.
I was also thinking to remove and save the air system.
Is it still mandatory to have it in California?
Do most people remove it to gain performance?

I have many questions, that come up in my mind. Is it possible, that the engine (sbc) does not have hydraulic lifters?

Bye
Stefano

Exhaust headers for 69 350/350

Hello,

Can anyone help me choose good headers or complete system for my 69 350/350?

The headers I have now and the secondary pipes, are in bad condition.

As you can see, the headers are going down slanted to the back.

I imagine, that a complete kit with mufflers and everything will probably be the best buy.

My mufflers are just two years old and I have not used the car much since I have replaced them, but probably to buy just new headers and the intermediate pipes will cost almost like a complete new system. What do you think?

Can you also tell me how the rear pipes before the mufflers should be held up close to the car body?

I am planning to remove the air pump antipollution system, that was probably added when the vehicle was registered in California. Do you think, that this is a good idea?

Thank you very much for the help

Stefano
