There is supposed to be a cable to yank to release the hatch... I can't find it! Is there one on the 87 or is it a later invention?

Thoughts?

On the 90 it's center right on the inside under the plastic rear deck lid I believe. You have to make yourself small and lay back there, hook and pull. I've never done it but I came across a post on it years ago. I'm working off of a failing memory.

found it! Hatch opened... a little reluctantly, but it opened...

It is this annoying little piece of piano wire... no more than 6" long.

that's in a perfect world... that little piece of wire likes to fall back to straight... which means digging for the damned thing.

tie a piece of high test black nylon braided fishing line abt 4' long to the oem wire...tuck under the inner hatch trim and run toward the pass seat...pops out when pulled to open the latch but easily returned to its lair till needed again.
