Object: engine compartment dress up. There's a birdsnest of wires behind the battery, connected to a junction block on my '91. I bent up a piece of sheet metal painted it black and used the rear battery hold down bolt to hold it in place.

cool, now find a way to keep it dry and i'll buy one.

that block has caused a few issues over the life of the 91. the main terminal off the battery corrodes from moisture and electrical stuff acts funky/car won't start intermittently until i pull all the wires off and clean it up and put dielectric grease on it.

It's also the source of fires. Make damned sure the metal never touches the stud!!!

Patrick at DC lost his 96 LT4 when that area of the battery blew up. Also took out his garage. That was back in 2001, IIRC.

I am glad I now live in a dry climate... but Pat is absolutely right, keeping that area clean is so very important.

I pull mine apart at least once a year and regrease it.

The water is from the garden hose, not weather. Thanks for the advice, though.

The perimiter of the top is bent down 90 deg. about 1/4" to stiffen it a bit. The left side by the yellow wire is tight to the firewall, small bead of black silicone to stabilize it. The bottom where the bolt goes thru is folded around the hold down block. Was it to much trouble to bother with? Not to me. Do I get obsessed with things. Maybe.

it really cleans up that area. I suspect it can't hurt keeping water from hitting it, too. The problem is water from the windshield dribbling in.

My only concern is contact with that stud, but in hindsight, I think the fingers protect that from happening.

Bogus, your safety concern motivated me to remove the cover to see if I overlooked something. The wiring is protected by those vertical plastic fingers. The cover has plenty of wire clearance. Never the less I will line the inside with some sheet rubber for piece of mind. One never knows...malevolent rodent attack, St. Elmo's fire, me do something stupid, etc.
