Why would someone place the heat of a Catalytic converter so close to oil filter, clutch slave cylinder and other heat sentive parts. I thought the heat sheilding for the 80's floor board were a symble of the factory poor design.

In california one converter will cost 3-5 hundred dollars un installed because of an enviromental tax. This started this year.

Is there a way to keep heat away from all the heat sentive parts?

First off, mail order a cat via summit racing.

You can use heat wrap materials from summit racing, also.

You have a 1985, right?

yea... it's an easy DIY project.

The cats on my 92 are up next to the oil filter and fuel filters... but they are shielded and are in the air flow. I can't say they have hurt anything... But you gotta keep the clutch hose retained to the firewall!!!

Do this, gut the pre-cats... they are beyond pointless.

then, put a piece of heat mat material - the reflective stuff - along inside the trans tunnel.

You cannot wrap cats, it will over heat and kill them.
