Hey guys,, I took the vette out today and after running a errand or two stated running like crap.
Soon as I stared it it was running like a big block with a large duration cam...and soon as you hit the gas it jumped like a dragster. After driving it a mile or so it clears up....? any ideas ? Here is what i have done. New plugs wires cap and rotor coil,Fuel filter |

Check the codes first.
Double check all of your work, ie make sure the plug wires are on tight. Been there, done that. Check your fuel pressure. I can go on and on with troubleshooting stuff, but these are basics. We need more info about the problem. Has this ever happened before? Was the motor hot or cold? How long did it sit? Any other changes? Could be fuel related. Could be an EGR valve or similar. Could be ignition related. Could be many things. Do a few basic checks and get back to us. Matthew |

No it has never done this before.
It has set most of winter but i have driven it about every other week. also new Fuel Pump.. I put in a Delphi Pump in November. Motor was somewhat warm.. not totally cold sat for maybe a hour. |

I am betting money... did it back fire? Did it run really really bad? Did it spit? Buck? Fight? Run like it was missing on 4 cylinders? And the timing was so out of whack?
Check the EGR valve. |

Egr is under the plenum.
Still using multi tech injectors? My 90 ran as you described when the stock injectors began to fail. Suggest ohm checking them, engine cold & hot. |

update, took it out for a ride and it ran great !
also it was cooler and not 80 degrees and the temp guage was where it should be not high like it was today ? i am at a loss for words right now ? take care, Steve |

Injectors are batch fire, if one shorts it can stop several if not all from functioning properly.
Your problem appears to be heat related & could be injectors or the ignition control module in the distributor. (ICM) Will check my take out injectors when I'm at the shop tomorrow & post the number that is on them. Maybe when I break for lunch. |

I put in a new Borg Warner Ignition control module.
I have not been able re-produce the i had. but again i thought it ran nice tonight. I can swear it run great when in Closed Loop ? Thanks again, |

So it's running better with a new ignition control module? Or it's just a coincidence it's running better? Sounds like you're throwing parts at it instead of diagnosing the actual problem. You still need to do the tests recommended above.

I am not a fan of throwing parts, but if they are original and 22 years old, with miles, maybe doing a minor mechanical renovation isn't a bad idea.

In regards to runs like crap!
I to have run into something simlar. I ran a code check on it and came up with P0441. My books say thats a "evap emission control system purge flow fault". So I ran the vacuum tests on the purge solenoid and found it bad. changed that and it all cleared up for a day or two. now the service engine light is back on. same code number so I checked out the purge valve which sets right in front of the purge solenoid and is connected to it by rubber hose. The purge valve is also connected to the line that goes to the purge canister at the rear of the car. But now I am having a problem finding this purge valve. no one stocks it or even shows it in the system. Chevy said it was discontinued but gives no solution. It like the purge solenoid both are wired to the ECM,so it sets off the service soon light. Now when this first happened I had to wait for the first part (the purge solenoid valve) a week. So to be able to drive the car without it being hard to start and running rough I removed and pluged the lines and loosened the tank cap so it would not build up pressure. Ran fine for the time I needed it. Has anyone ran into this and what can I do about this discontinued purge valve? Any help would be really great. Dan |

Yea I already changed out the purge valve solenoid,it was bad for sure. But now I am having problems with the purge valve it self. It mounts in the line just in front of the solenoid. Trouble is no one shows it in there books and Chevy tells me it was dicontinued.Great hugh? What do you guys think is the solution? Dan |

Thanks for the fast response, and thanks for the names and numbers. Man this is a great site. I will let you know what I find out. It is running great now but I want to get rid of the service engine light. I cancel it out and it comes back on in about 30 miles.

I called a couple of the fellows you put me on to Bogus and they were for a loss to. I ended up finding a part number on rock auto.com I called our local Chevy dealer and gave them the number, it checked out so I ordered it and picked it up today. Exact same part.I cut the old one apart and it has a cloth looking diaphram that was all gunked up and a micro switch for the ecm connection. I am sure the crap in it was from years of setting. Anyway thanks again for your help and incase any one wants to know the part is still made by AC Delco the number is 212-577 and GM part number is 12555984 . The reason it didn't show up on the Chevy parts counter computer is because it is on the schematic for the fuel delivery sys. It should be in with the evap sys just like the solenoid was. FYI

Excellent detective work! And yes, GM has a tendency to put things where they don't belong... I have a copy of the parts fiche and I can't find stuff from time to time... logic does not prevail!
