I know my rack is bad becasue when it's cold out, the steering sticks (for lack of a better term). I'll turn the wheel and all of a sudden it feels like I don't have power steering, but only for a second.

What I'm confused about is that when the steering sticks, the steering wheel with move about 2 inches...It makes a clicking noise when this happens. I get the impression that something is stripped on the column, has anyone ever heard of this?

Also, if I turn the key to the "on" position to unlock the column, and then turn the wheel with the car not running, the wheel will rotate about two inches before it stops....before the tires even move. This stripping action occurs easily..

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?..Thanks.

what year is your Vette?

This sounds odd to me. There isn't any connection inside the column that would cause this.

I would check the ujoints under the hood, tho.

I wonder if the security pin/lock plate are binding up?

My Vette's an 84...the clicking and stripping seems to be coming from inside..but I'm not sure...I'll check out the security pin/lock plate..Thanks..

there could be something binding down by the tilt mechanism, tho...

it might require taking it apart and seeing what it broke.
