I have finally purchased a quality torque converter for myself
Time and money have prevented me from doing it sooner. It is a nice 9.5 inch custom lock up converter with all of the goodies.
Stock size converter weighs 42 pounds
New converter weighs 28.5 pounds
Both figures are dry weight.
14 pounds removed from the flexplate can only help!
I cannot wait till the weather improves

sweet!

I love how manual transmission folks complain about the weight of the DM flywheel, and NO ONE ever comments about the weight of the TC... Most facinating.

There is other advantages to a smaller converter. They are much more efficient. Higher stall converters become a heat pump.
The efficiency of a small converter allows for less heat with higher stalls.
The smaller converters becume a true aftermarket piece, once assembled. This allows for better strength and overall quality.
They also feel tighter, and more normal on the street. Price is the only drawback. @ $525, I feel it is a bargain though

they charge 400.00 for the Fidenza aluminum flywheel. I don't see the problem.

the TC does a helluva lot more than some overpriced slab of aluminum.

True. A flywheel can transfer the power. The torque converter will multiply torque, and at the same time cushion the hit. Pretty cool piece.

the TC is a seriously cool piece.

I don't fully understand them, but have enough understanding to know what they do... just don't know why!!!

I will never pretend to be an AT expert.... no way.

That's why you're here!!!
