Pulled out my radiator support on my '76 to do the engine bay overhaul and found that the bottom corner on one side was rusted all the way through. However, the rest of it is really solid. Strange.

Anyway, did a price check from Corvette America...and if I have the '76-Late...oh its $700+! If its Early '76 then its like $400. I think I will find a way to repair....geez

it's metal. God invented torches for just that reason.

Weld it then powder coat it. The support will last forever.

I would also be sure to check the birdcage out, too.

It could be worse - I have heard of guys pulling it out, only to find the bottom section still in the car.

Mine also had more rust damage on one corner than the other, but fortunately not beyond repair. No way was I gonna shell out that kind of cash for a new one (and mine was the early version). We fixed it, painted it, and forgot it.

Don't know how you can turn down an offer like that!

Yeah that's really cool of you Vetter! I may do that. I am going to try and take a better look at it and I may post up some pics of it.

Yeah bogus, the birdcage is fine on this car. That's what is weird about this being rusted OUT in this one location only. It is on the side of the overflow, so maybe it leaked down...not sure.

that is a great offer!!!

and the support does not look that bad... sure, it's rusted, but I have seen some bad stuff happen on those...

you may want to consider powder coating it.

that would take a big stove, too. I doubt it would fit in a standard oven... know anyone at a pizza joint?

You know, that support is still sitting there. I ahven't touched it since I started the motor tear-down. I am not sure what I am wanting to do. Seems like a waste to scrap it considering its only bad in that one area. I may see if I can get someone to weld it up first...then see where that takes me.
