I have changed my mind...
I had simply forgotten the old days. Back in the 70s, there may not have been a RULE, but there was a standard package. The Cosworth V8 with a Hewland box. Outside of Ferrari, most everyone else ran that setup. It didn't ruin the racing, did it? |

But did you notice it's a spec engine they DON'T have to buy??
It's the DEFAULT engine. Personally I think they should just bring back stock blocks |

lets start this over... I think we are crossing posts here.
There is a lease OPTION. I see that option as being cheaper than building your own or buying another. I wonder what Ferrari charges STR or Force India? |

When it first started getting set out there, I wasn't impressed with the idea of some of the teams losing their identity. A Ferrari F1 car with a Cosworth? Ick.

all they need to due to limit power is used spec fuel injecters & pump
Do that, and not matter how much air you throw at it, you won't make power. They already have a spec controller. Then they can work on being efficient which directly transfers to road cars. |

Of course racing is expensive.
But tested racing technology is what makes our street cars safer and economical to operate. Spec cars are fine, yet only contribute to "cheat tech". Days gone by the engineers had to develop and test ideas. Cool! Now they can call it the "F1 Racing League" |

I would not object to customer cars... that would be a money saver.
Just accept the fact that a factory Ferrari or Mclaren will kick its ass. F1 has migrated in this direction since the turbo era started in the early '80s. Mosley, as much as he annoys me, is trying to bring it back to the 70s. Less aero, less tech, more driving. It's hard to quantify, tho, if F1 REALLY is the tech leader... even DTM had to scale back the tech. Everytime tech gets too advanced in racing, the sport loses something. |
