Oaklands Shifter knob acting up

I am having a little trouble turning OD on and off with my shifter. Could it just be a little bent under the top off the shifter knob? I am guessing all I need to do is take a screwdriver and pop the push down part (diagram of the shift sequence) with a screwdriver and see if everything looks ok?

This is on an 88 4+3.

When it works, the shifting between OD and out is fine.

Thanks,

Keith
