Does anyone have the spec for how much break away torque the D44's Posi unit clutches should hold?? Is there even a spec?? I looked on the internetz and some 4X4 guys said the TSM/FSM says it should be 40 lbs minimum.

http://www.earlycj5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=75744

I'm just trying to monitor wear on my rear end, so I can catch it and replace the clutch pack before I grenade thee spyder gears.

Last night I jacked the drivers side tire off the ground and put a TQ wrench on one of the lugs. It's taking right at 100ftbs before the clutches slip.

Tonight I'm going to take the tire off and use my 36mm to apply force directly on the center... It should require more TQ as I don't have the slight mech advantage using the off center lug has.

If we can't find a better spec. Would a few folks be willing to breakout their Tq wrenches, jack on tire off the ground and tell me a where their posi's break loose?
thanks
Will

I check that on mine once in awhile. I found it to hold 110 ft/lbs using the center 36 mm nut and torque wrench. Like you I also wondered about this, about what others found, and what the spec should be. I haven't found others to be checking the torque. I did talk to Brian about it, (bjankuski, not sure he is here) he works on differentials, he said at 110 it is good. He thought when it got down in the 40 range it would be bad. (jives with 40 min, I guess)

Thanks.

I just rechecked it using the 36mm on the outer stub axel and it was clicking right on 105 ft/lbs in the tightest spot and I had to drop it to 80 ft/lbs in the loosest spots.

I'm going to recheck after driving it around this weekend and after next weeks trip to the track to see if it gets any worse.

Probally going to order a clutch kit and those adjustment shims Toms sells so I'll be ready.

I find it odd that no one racing these cars checks the diff with a TQ wrech... we always checked them every week on our oval track cars and some of the quick change rears have a gear type LSD that has very specific breakaway TQ values.
