i want to get the .bin file work with on my car, is there a way to do this without pulling the PCM?

i have an APU1 emulator if that counts for anything.

See my post in your other thread - if you already have a removable chip/socket you can use that as a source for your bin. If you dont have a removable chip, get a chip adapter kit from Moates (you'll need it anyway even with an APU) and a stock bin from the moates site.

If you want a mini-tutorial on burning chips just PM me and I'll be happy to spend some time on the phone with you.

Chip Reading and Programming

Connect the AutoProm to the USB cable. The USB will supply the power.

Make sure the 28 pin ribbon cable used for emulation is UNPLUGGED from the unit. Unpredictable behavior can result from the APU1 being directly connected to a ECM using the emulation cable while burning chips.

Place the target or source chip in the ZIF socket.

Orientation is critical, and the chip should be placed with its notch or arrow facing toward the ZIF handle and toward the back panel of the AutoProm. The chip should be at the ‘bottom’ of the socket, such that any unused socket pin slots are closest to the handle or backplane.

Use a supporting software program, such as TunerPro or FlashBurn to pick read/write operation, file location and name, starting and ending addresses, any hex offsets, bank selection, or other characteristic of the read/write operation. Carry out desired program/read/verify steps as desired, and remove chip from socket.

- ok... followed those steps

... now why wont tunerpro read the memcal?

HIZZAAAHHH!!!! LOOK AND ADMIRE!!!! -

- it only took me like 3 days and 500$ to do it too!

----> and with that I'm done for the night. I need a beer, and I'm going to play some video games.

So why wasn't it reading? What did you change?

Sounds like he was running a stock chip?

he was. apparently a stock chip with the fans reprogrammed somehow. i don't know how, you can't reprogram the memcals so it came from factory with a different fan on/off settings. but yes it was a 350ci chip and 22lb injectors...

so far I am trying to fiddle with the VE tables using the GP1 adapter and tunerproRT. I technically lied, I can't reprogram the memcal but I can use the adapter to fake a new chip.

(I am trying to learn how to use VEmaster and Datamaster log files to auto printout my needed VE tables so I don't ahve to manually adjust these.... so far I haven't gotten 100% completely meaningful data, yet. it is still slightly... well wrong. I think, it is for the lt1 engine series...and uses 2 o2 sensors. not mine which is one. I think.)

- I have a short write up i can copy/paste on how to get the tuner tools and software to work if you would like? I can also take some pictures and store 'em on photobucket. I have been taking 100's anyways, and loading 'em on facebook and detailing them of the engine rebuild for the gf, I think it makes her happy to know what I am up to on the weekends lololol :D - i love her.

It's possible he just had the fans reprogrammed, which is a common thing. Maybe VATS deleted, etc.

I think a write up on tuning would be great, it will help anyone else in the future going through the same thing you are.

This is a copy paste... and I haven't figured out a slick streamlined way to do the VE tables yet (i'm still figuring out VE master) but, here we go:

What did you have to do to make it work?

for a '91....
a) i needed a GP1 adapter...
b) some spare (1) 27sf512 chips to burn and reflash...
c) discover said chips are fake knock offs that moates knew about and still sent out, used said chips anyways...
d) an HDR1 connector to get original programming off of the memcal...
e) an APU1 emulator/reader/writer...

for aldl reading - inside software issues of tunerprortv5 I had to
a) get the super_8dm2.xdf file
b) 1227730_8d.adx file
c) these were converted over from the:
super_8dm2.ecu file...
1227730_8d.ads file...
d) i had to modify the ADX file...
under: Acquisition, expand commands cross, select mode 1 aldl dump request, change Body Size (Dec) to 67 (from 66).
e) in tools, preferences, data acquisition/eumlation, change: "configure plug-in componet", from serial data acquisition to shared with emulator.
f) tools, start/stop data scan. (it may have auto-connected on it's own anyways at the point in time i changed the preferences options...)
this got me to reading with aldl cable on the apu1 I did not attempt to record the log file yet, but it did give me access to realtime updates thought the aldl cable.

for aldl reading and logging - under tunerprortv4
A) same crap... need a .xdf file, and an .ads file, BUT - it has to be a tunerprortv4 file. (however there is no need to convert)
B) i had to change under preferences, aldl/emulation, from MAX232 to autoprom.
C) tools, to ALDL logging, setup, then there is a select log file option (though there wasn't a create log file option...)
D) click the: select log file, create: a new log file.
E) open the new log file you created and start recording the log file in that. (you will get an error if you just try to hit record as it wont know where your recording too nor have a loaded log file)

for reading, erasing or burning,
under either tunerprort v5 or v4,
a) tools, moates PROM/IO option, put in blank chip into zif socket on apu1.
b) read chip. save buffer to file..
c) load buffer file under, file, to open .bin file.
d) edit said .bin file.
e) save said .bin file.
f) tools, moates PROM/IO option, load file to buffer, select said .bin file, erase chip, program chip, verify chip w/ buffer
e) place chip in GP1 adapater
f) figure out which end is up
g) stick memcal onto GP1 adapter
h) stick adapter into car
i) f*cking panic and pray motor doesn't blow up
j) turn key, start engine.

to read stock memcal see, options about reading chip inside moates utility.
a) use the HDR1 adapter to read the .bin file off the stock memcal.
b) spend 5 hours figuring out above said options, figuring out which end is up, and which ways to have the little buttons at the back of the APU1 set when doing the above said steps.
(note: you cannot reprogram the stock memcal either, i tried... several times... on accident, lol.)
