Morning all. First morning with power since Wednesday.. power went out during the Wednesday night storm and only came back yesterday. Did a panic dash to buy a generator on Friday morning.. eventually found a used one at Bubbas Pawn. Kept the fridge and freezer working and got the cell phone booster and wifi hooked up (no wired wifi service where I live). Also connected chargers for my laptop, ipad and two phones. Amazing that a little 1800watt inverter genny will power all that with 40% load on a gallon of fuel every 12 hours.

Lease signed on the building yesterday - lots of setting up to do, my son launches the resto business on January 1!

Morning all!

Tuesdays is office day for me - head down to the city to sit in a socially distanced office. Good to catch up in person with a few folks. Missing the ability to just go and grab lunch with the team.

Greenwood still has a mid section clunk when going over bumps.. thinking an exhaust hanger. Waiting to get it up in the air but there is always something else to work on. Also turns out the guy who did me a favor and got my front tires mounted didnt actually balance them which will explain my 70mph shimmy. (At least I hope that's what it is)!

My son's restoration business is close to closing on a building lease - has a number of vehicles lined up to start. Thats going to be a lot of fun!

Take care all

The PO replaced the cluster with a 6k Tach (my car is a 96 CE Manual LT4). So I want to put the proper cluster in. Anybody have one?

Been distracted for a few weeks, health issues (resolved) with follow ups. My son finally about to pull the trigger on the car and truck resto business. Managed to get some time with Greenwood last night and tightened up/rescrewed/reglued a couple loose body panels and the diffuser. Hopefully won’t sound like something is about to fall off next time I go over a bump. Cooler weather is awesome and good for evening working

Tommy that's too funny. I was off work for 6 months and was way too active for my age - landscaping/digging/under cars/jumping up and down off the truck/lifting and hauling. Literally everything hurt, I couldnt even get a coffee cup out the cupboard in the mornings without my shoulder (either one) creaking and popping - and then I'd work outside all day again.

Now I have a job again (corporate desk job mainly from home) I'm no longer in pain and I'm looking forward to working on a couple cars this weekend.

Happy long weekend gurus!

Hey all. Humid today in the ATL, muggy enough that I got a headache putting the ABS unit back into the silverado. ABS works but still have a soft pedal. Auto bleed some more I guess.

Decided to get rid of Facebook from my phone.. I was spending too much time watching videos from each side. Dems making fun of Trump, Reps making fun of Biden. Cant take it any more, whatever happens will happen. Cant believe the Dems are only now speaking out against the riots - gonna hurt them that it came up after the DNC. So I'm out, not discussing it until December.

Anyway - otherwise all good. Need to get around to the new throttle pedal bracket on the Greenwood.

Oh - and the really big news is my son is finally setting up his car restoration business.. I'm excited for him.

Over and out.

Morning all. Looks like the dew point finally below 70 - makes for easy yard work in the evenings. Oh - and I got a job.. no longer an unemployed layabout.

Vetteblondie - good luck with your customer. If you need an "internal narrative" to help with the situation, let me know I'll walk you through it.

The CE needs a new throttle mount (it's real loose). Ordered a metal one and it arrived a few days ago. Might tackle it this evening. ..and the dash started fading in and out. Bad contacts for sure.

Happy Wednesday gurus!

Morning all. In Florida (panhandle) for a few days, should be hot and sticky. Just hanging out doing nothing.

DeWitts radiator should arrive Monday, hopefully I can start actually driving the 96 and make a start on my frame/suspension project.

Tommy - hope all goes well.

Some behavioral scientist testified recently that the social media collectively helped Hillary get up to 10 Million 'extra' votes in 2016. Outside of who you actually vote for, kind of terrifying that a few large corps (FB, Google, Twitter) have that much power. (edit - he also said that it's almost impossible to monitor/prevent them doing it)

Hi all. Another busy day in paradise - yardwork, squeaky drivetrain on the farm truck, valve adjustment on the Yamaha Rhino (they've tightened up, apparently its a thing with these.. lost compression). Oh, and the vette needs a radiator, after all this work it runs smooth as silk but is dumping its fluids. Ordered a DeWitts :-)

Going back to work August 17, the missus will need to find someone else to do the yardwork. Oh well.

Tommy - hope everyone gets better soon.

Hi all. Got some work done already before it gets too hot. Had to reseat the battery cables on my old tractor and get the batteries charged up, neighbor wants to borrow it later for some bush hogging. (Its a Belarus 250, nice 2 cylinder long stroke diesel, massive torque).

Also figured out how to get the drivers door apart on the '96 and I replaced the window guide - door closes real nice now (no more rattle/clang). Just need to put the door card back on.

Taking the fam out for a dog walk and a social distancing picnic.. a couple spots half an hour away that are usually pretty empty.

Going to spend the afternoon sitting outside and drinking beer- cant wait.

Stay safe everyone

Another hot one in North Georgia. Not the best weather for maintenance on the vette nor yard work, but I have a long to-do list.

Water pump on the 96 was bad after all, took it off and the bearings are totally shot. While there I decided to do plugs and wires.. not my first rodeo on a C4 so it was relatively painless. First blood did go to #8 until I remembered to stand backwards against the car to get my hand at the right angle. Of course, I also found the alternator bearings shot and the idler pulleys on their last legs. May as well change the belt while I'm there. Havent even got to the window guides or throttle mount yet. Still planning an "anti flex" project and some track time.

Friend tested positive for the 19 but now almost fully recovered.. lucky hadn't seen them for a few weeks before they felt sick. Their kids and partner all negative.. how weird is that. Stay safe Y'all.

Been working like an indentured servant but I like that things are getting done. Solar panel billing update. My bill last month was a partial bill because there was an overlap of service and with the start up. The bill was $129. Usually around $400. This is the first full production month and my projected bill is around $50. We use between 3200 and 3400 kwH a month at this time of year. I have the A/C going full time in the back shed/office. A little tweaking with LED light bulbs and doing stuff like laundry when the system is producing could swing it lower. We are using our power at will so $50 is great but $0 is even better. This year is one of those years I want to wake up and it be over. Miss my cruises. Too many surgeries, and the other outside crap that's going on that I am avoiding. Saharan dust is keeping the rain away , the temps hot and it's been sunny. June is usually the wettest month of the year but the rains came early this year. I'm sure we'll get something sometime.

May the best things in life be yours.

Tommy - interested in your solar project. Trying to find a reputable consultant to have a sensible (non-marketing) discussion. Which company did you work with, and do you have issues with the power company?

Also found an arcing plug wire so looks like plugs and wires are in my future.

All that clean-up from previous owners—I remember it well with my 1985.

I can relate.

Havent even started thinking about the loose door cards, floppy throttle pedal, unrestrained window motors, and paintwork that feels like sandpaper.

Interestingly, it looks like several panels have a vinyl wrap. In a couple areas I can see some minor/feint bubbling from certain angles that disappear when I press on them. Given the car has this extensive body kit, not sure of the implementation technique. Looks amazing from 10 feet but not so hot from 2.

Stay safe gurus

Yeah I know where this is heading. My '92 had 600 at the wheels and sounded like it was driven by Chuck Norris.

The stock LT4 feels really good, but isn't really any quicker than my little old Audi S3 (and sometimes feels less urgent).

Not sure I want to go boosted again.. but maybe headers, 3" exhaust and a lumpy cam would net me an extra 100 horses? I promised the missus I wouldn't do anything crazy with this one but the fever is real. (or maybe I just came down with C19).

OK - I want to do a cool suspension/frame project on this 96 Coupe. Seen a lot of different aftermarket parts - roof braces, x-braces, frame tensioner, sway bar updates, heim joint bushing upgrades etc.

Assuming that fabrication skills are readily available, and access to a lift and a shop, and willingness to strip the car down to access the frame.. what would you like to see as a project? Greenwood wrote an article that was critical of the C4 design and in their (rare) G-350 and G-383 builds they did some frame mods, would love to know what they did. Lots of debate on the viability of cross-bracing. Gordon Killibrew's frame flex solution seems kind of a band aid?

What do you guys think?

Morning guys. Heading out camping in the fiver today, looking forward to a week of sitting around and cooking outside.

Rediscovering the joys of C4 ownership - drove it 5 times this week. Holy crap all the squeaks and rattles and creaking and flimsy parts and funny noises and non-working stuff. But I just want to drive it.. and I cant stop looking at it :-)

I agree - it's nicely done and has some cool features. I like it a lot :-) It will probably detract from value but I was happy with the deal I got.

As for numbers, as far as I'm concerned it's a stock 1996 CE with a manual and LT4.. when I wanted to get back into C4's it "had" to have an LT4.

Flushed the whole system today - pulled about 2 quarts through.. all brakes had very dark fluid. Couldn’t see a bleed screw on the ABS but I used a vacuum pump to pull the fluid through the callipers and apparently that is good enough. Cycled the ABS a few times on a handy patch of dirt - brakes feel great now. DOT4 and a new master and new stainless lines on order.

Hi all. Got the online-parts-ordering fever. Had to sell my 'other daily' (2005 BMW 330Ci ZHP.. nice car) to fund the maintenance and upgrades to the Greenwood. The missus is going to be nervous for a while. It came with the original wheels (painted black) so they'll be my track wheels. Need to lay out for some nice track rubber.. will probably hide that transaction :-)

Thanks guys. Pedal was back to normal a few hours later.

Will be doing a full bleed thru tomorrow, and then a full flush with some DOT4 (this will be a track car) and new rotors/pads/steel lines in a couple weeks. I'll add a new master to the list.

1996 CE 6MT. Went on a long drive in yesterday afternoon's heat and after a particularly hard stop the brake pedal went real soft, and then after a few minutes cruising it went back to normal, and then after a few minutes soft again. "Brake Pressure" light came on. Can still stop the car "normally" but extra effort needed and pedal was almost to the floor. ASR lights have been on since I got the car, so I don't think they are related, but could be a contributor.

Brake fluid reservoir is full but looks black and I think it's 10+ years old.

Possible I boiled the fluid off.. plan to completely flush it and do the ABS flush (I have access to a scan tool to cycle it).

Any other suggestions/theories?

Wassup. It's been a while, back in the C4 game (see my post on new members.. should be called "new members and old members who couldn't get corvettes out their blood). Trying to avoid all the news, came back here for some friendly banter.

Hey guys - its been a while. Sold the green monster in 2014, saw it a few times after that but it was totaled in 2016. Had a couple whiskies to commemorate. (For those of you that weren't around, it was one of only two C4's in the US running a Vortech YSi supercharger... and I tuned it from scratch. Total beast).

Discovered a couple weeks ago that it didn't go to the scrap heap after all.. and it still runs and drives (not legally). Salvage title, "major damage" on Carfax. I went to see it and almost cried - not in good shape, but.. starts fine and still sounds like a total monster. He was excited to meet the guy that built it... I asked him to sell it to me immediately, but he could see the pain in my eyes and got greedy asked $19k. Holy smokes, that woke me up. Next morning I made a decision.. I need a cool C4 again, but I'm not about to drop thousands into repairing something that hasn't been maintained for years.

So.. welcome "Greenwood" to the family. Completely stock 1996 CE 6MT with a love it or hate it Greenwood kit. (I LOVE it). I plan to do some cool suspension and frame mods.. these days I have 100% access to whatever custom fabrication I want! (back story - my son competed Formula D for a few years, and during that time built a couple race cars from scratch. He's a wicked fabricator :-) )

Pictures to follow...

Sold the beast last week, today is day 6 without it...

Definitely mixed feelings- I'll admit to a brief 'moment' as the new owner drove away, but somewhat excited to be able to focus on my race car project and start some road course racing.

If I'm honest the beast wasn't one thing or the other- not practical for daily use and being a convertible not really a track car. Nevertheless I put my heart at soul into that car and it's taking some adjusting.

I'm looking long and hard at maybe trading the caged Nissan for a 2004 Z06 that I could drive on the street and road course occasionally. Plus see if the Z06 is able to get some drifting done at my son's practice sessions. Long term I'm not sure what my future holds in terms of 'grown man toys'... We may be moving to the beach next year so maybe I'll switch my focus to boat(s). I'm told by boat owners that a boat is better described as a "floating bucket that you pour your salary into". Like the 'vette, then... :-)

I'll still be on here enjoying the daily chat, mainly lurking, and looking forward to Fridays.

Cheers all

SOLD!

Sold to a local guy- he's very familiar with Chevy products and wanted a sweet ride to cruise to car shows and generally terrorize local ricers.

Guru's - I'm not having any hits or interest in my car :-(

I'm open to constructive criticism on pricing or the way I've advertised it.

All,

Just listed for sale "over there":

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4s-f ... en-convertible-650hp.html

Listed for $17,500, it will likely come with a new suspension setup (adjustable links etc) that I'll post separately.

I've upped the price since I am no longer in a hurry to sell, plus summer is coming. I'll still cut the Guru's a break at $15,500 firm.

Thanks guys - me too, feels a little bit surreal. I'm in no real hurry to sell, so I can maybe 'vet' potential buyers (pun intended!)

Andy - possibly!. The car I'm looking at is built for autocross, roadcourse or drifting (need simple alignment changes for drifting).

Morning Guru's! Some of you will have seen that the beast is up for sale - I have decided to go a different direction and get a dedicated track car. Unfortunately the beast is a vert so it wasnt going to work for me. I've had 9 years of happy driving but only drove 900 miles last year.

Hopefully I'll find a happy home for her!

Also forgot to mention the following things:

- Car runs a 1996 cooling system including the single sided belt setup
- the alcohol injection system (2-stage, boost referenced)
- wideband gauge
- ability to datalog wideband (switch installed in center console to allow running of A/C when not datalogging)
- fuel pressure and boost gauges
- aeromotive afpr
- racetronix fuel pump harnesses

..plus probably tons of other stuff...

Asking $14k firm

The time has come to sell the beast. This is a very unique car that will bring someone a lot of fun.. I'm selling because I'm taking my car hobby in a different direction.

This car has just over 60k miles on the chassis, and I have over $15k in receipts, including the following major components from summer 2011: (Car has done about 3000 miles since the build):

- Fully forged, built and internally balanced LT1 block with CNC'ed LT4 heads and intake. 9:1 CR, built for boost. Built by Grimes in Alpharetta, GA, this motor made 430 crank horsepower on the engine dyno at Grimes shop before I dropped it in the car.
- Brand New Vortech YSi supercharger, with a 3.25" pulley (8-Rib) spec'ed for 12 pounds of boost at 6500 RPM - this supercharger is capable of much more.
- recent dyno run (August 2013) made 560 at the wheels at 5400 RPM. The car is currently rev limited to 5500 rpm pending install of 80 pound injectors, but I havent had time to get the injectors and set up the tune on the dyno.
- Front Brembo brakes and calipers
- QA1 coilovers front and rear
- 4-point rollbar
- Dewitts Radiator
- ZF Doc short shifter

Paintwork is 7/10, car still has A/C. Idles fine in traffic, well behaved on a cruise, starts easily hot or cold. Car is definitely not a sleeper. Complete monster above 3k RPM

The 'bad'.

- Small tear in drivers seat side bolster
- Will not pass Georgia emissions with current tune / exhaust
- One of the fuel pumps buzzes, I think it's due to the way
it's mounted. I'll try and fix it before the car is sold.
- Running an 'open loop' tune due to cam reversion issues. If you need closed loop to pass smog this car is not for you
-

I dont know for sure but I seem to remember those nuts need a bunch of torque, like around 150 foot lbs. I can go check the shop manual this weekend.

Happy Friday guys. Been prepping the beast for some drag racing at NOPI this weekend (likely going Sunday). I had replaced the front ball joints and steering knuckles, got an alignment done last night. Finishing off the tune tomorrow, just have some pump shot and cold-cranking adjustments to make.

Finalizing plans for next year.. maybe even selling the 'vette.. watch this space!

Selling my B&M - it was just too much effort for me to get into 3rd gear at the track and I was losing about a second of acceleration with the effort. I have a blueprinted transmission and 3rd has always been a bit notchy.

Anyhow - the shifter is wonderful for street use and is probably OK for 3rd on a stock tranny.

I have installed a ZFDOC shifter, feels very nice and smooth.

It's on ebay, starting bid $80. I'll pull it off ebay for $110 shipped for a guru.

Afternoon everyone. Slammed as usual, but motivated to get the beast ready for NOPI in Atlanta on Sept 21/22. So this past weekend I changed out the ball joints on the front A-Arms and the tie rod ends. All with Moog replacement joints. Alignment happening this week.

Also received my ZFDoc shifter on Saturday, so I got up early this morning and removed the B&M Ripper shifter (took me only half an hour, because the pin came out very easily. Glad I greased it when I installed the B&M). Will put the ZF Doc shifter in tonight... I have high expectations!

Good day all

Andy

Guys,

I just saw this thread.

I have an additional pump on my car, mounted behind the tag plate; I also have an aftermarket harness to drive the additional pump. Mine is all wired so that the 'stock' fuel pump supply drives the relay, and the relay drives 2 x separate pump feeds. The Power feed to the relay is hard wired to the alternator so the pumps get 13 volts rather than 12.

The theory is that 2 pumps in series work only half as hard as one on it's own; I have a monster pump as my inline and it flows 80gph in my testing, enough (in theory) for 700 HP at 0.6 BSFC.

FYI I mounted my aftermarket relay on the underside of the car, and the harness also came with some additional grounding lugs because the stock grounds for the pump are apparently not very good.

Tommy - my aftermarket harness is made by Racetronix, I may be able to dig out the schematics this weekend if it would help.
