Andy, you may have input here if you've ever changed the struts on the Saab.

My Wife's Saab, a 2007 9-3, is starting to 'thump' and rattle over bumps. Tell tale shocks / struts.

I looked to see if maybe I could replace the shock within the strut but it looks like I'll be changing out the whole assembly. No matter, that's what I prefer anyway.

I put a call in to Napa, and they have the struts for both front sides and rear shocks. I think I can get all four for around $300 in parts.

I haven't looked yet but I assume it is a fairly straight forward bolt in operation. Anyone have any info to the contrary? I hate to dig too deep since it's her daily driver and I'd like to be prepared as possible before I pull the tires and jump in.

While I am doing the struts and shocks I have a few bulbs to replace...they're still good but the computer senses them as bad, and those SUCK. Almost have to remove the bumper to get to the front marker lights.

IIRC, the 9-3 is general GM junk in this respect.

As for thumps, check motor mounts.
