Kalashnikov often said he felt personally untroubled by his contribution to bloodshed.

"I sleep well. It's the politicians who are to blame for failing to come to an agreement and resorting to violence," he said in 2007.

He built that weapon to better defend tank soldiers. His reasons and actions were all for his fellow soldier.

For a military man, his purpose had the highest order of honor and priority.

He was absolutely right about blaming the politicians.

His gift was simplicity. And durability.

The AK47 was a hunk of junk from a precision/accuracy perspective, but if you wanted to throw lead at the subject for days at time, nothing would come close.

Easy to field strip and maintain, too.

ABSOLUTELY. THE RUSSIANS ALWAYS ADHERED CLOSELY TO THE KISS PRINCIPAL IN THEIR SMALL ARMS AND ARTILLERY.

IN THE US ARMY WE ALWAYS HAD JOE NUMBNUTS WHO COULD BREAK A STEEL BALL WITH A RUBBER HAMMER. THE RUSSIANS MUST HAVE HAD A LOT OF IVAN NUMBNUTS.
