I've always been fond of the 2nd-gen Camaro and Firebird body style - one of GM's best designs of that era, IMO.

I had one of those....a white one with blue stripes.....what a pooch....its the car I got beat by a 454 crew cab full of hollering guys drinking beer, with ladders up on the racks, out in western Kansas on a straight stretch of Highway 24.....oh the humanity....got rid of it due to total humilitation and bought my 79 Corvette with 230 HP.....now there was some real power...

Awesome!

What year was this carnage? I remember those 454s on Suburbans in the early 1980s - a revelation in a "new" vehicle.

Had to be in 79 or 80 when the race took place. I was cruising back to Kearney Nebr. from Manhattan KS and I always took U.S. 24. Not a lot of traffic and long stretches so I could clip right along. I was cruising about 65 or 70 when the 454 pickup came around me. Something happened that must have pissed me off because I floored the Z28 to pull away from them and they punched it also and there we were running side by side going for top end.....and slowly they started to pull away....with empty beer cans being chucked out the windows of the big Chevy at my worthless Camero.......I hated that car.....gutless wonder....POS.....don't have a picture of it....burned them all.....the 454 was in a 75 or so crew cab....blue on top and bottom and white in between.....I can still see it pulling ahead with the ladders swaying up and down.....geez....

You get a lot of points for honesty - we would still love to meet up with you some day.
