Hey Friends, I finally got to get this car out and drive it and it has a small miss in it but I think with driving it will iron out. I know these cars sour quick from setting. Could not really get on it because it was rainy and wet. But I do have a small problem. It will idle fine in park but when you put in drive it wants to idle up and down and eventually so low it just dies. When it is at normal running temp it just dies when you put in gear if you don't have your foot on the gas. It runs good and sounds good except for the very small miss. The shop that did the tune up also did an air control valve back when I first started having problems with this car. Any ideas? I know you guys have some good suggestions.

I am betting they didn't install the Idle Air Control valve (IAC) correctly.

I don't remember the procedure off hand, but I have the FSM at home and will get the page uploaded.

The miss could be a bad wire, plug or dead cap... could even be a vacuum leak.

I would start with an IAC and TPS reset since the IAC was already replaced.

I am short on time, I'll post the procedure later.

Driving will NOT 'iron out' ANYthing.

How do they 'sour', sitting???

'Getting on it', aka WOT wide open throttle, means NOTHING.

What does the service order say, from the shop that did the 'tune'?

Maybe stick with one thread, instead of starting a new one...

Do you have a fuel pressure gauge? And shop manual???

To Schrade
First I live in a coastal area and any car that sets here long enough will foul, sour, whatever you want to call it. It is harder on the old cars. They need to be driven frequently. Service order said nothing because the car never ran right after they have tired several times to fix their foul ups. I did the fuel pressure test and we discover fuel pump was bad, which they should have found but nickeled and dimes till I said I will figure it out and that is when I got on this forum which has been super helpful. And I did not start the new thread, the webmaster did because it was a new topic from my original problem. I have a Manuel on an 84 but not the 85.

What's the fuel pressure? And pressure leakdown time?

You HAVE to know this to start diagnostics without a DTC.

edit:
I didn't see that Matt had cut off the other thread.

Are you SURE that the other problem was fixed? You said it 'seemed' to fix it.

If it didn't, then you have to keep track of what tests were done and results.

And remember that cold motor operation tells you the same as WOT operation - nothing. After you 'try' [???] a repair, it has to warm up, and then the computer check all 'peripherals'.
