Still haven't found the plug I was looking for in the other thread, butI've also been searching for info regarding cats.
Ok, so here's what I'm trying to do. I'm running a FAST EZ-EFI and it obviously has an 02sensor. I've been trying to find slip on cats to put on the headers, but I keep finding these ratings, or lack of them, that make me wonder if they're gonna flow well enough. I don't mind using a single cat if it has enough flow, but again, finding the info is proving elusive. Looking for suggestions........ |

Any "high flow" cat should be sufficient. In fact, a regular cat would be sufficient. Are you running duals or a y-pipe?

I would look for a used 92-96 system and have it adapted. Mine is headers into a 96 LT4 exhaust that I had modified. All you need is the hangers and pipes. You can use any brand high flow cat you like.

I do recommend spending a little more and getting the CA spec cats... they hold up better than the cheaper replacements.
Magnaflow... Random Tech has closed down. |

all the aftermarket cats are junk.
If you can find low mileage OEM cats, that's the ticket. Scour ebay and call the used parts vendors... you may have to buy manifolds to legally get the cats... it is illegal, by federal law, to sell used cats. But there is no law to give them away as part of an assembly, i.e., an entire exhaust system or an entire engine assembly. This affects the vendor more than you, but you have to play the dumbass game... |

Honestly it's not new territory.
LT1 cats will not fit the L98 correctly, it's been attempted. Aftermarket cats are fine for your application. |

Thanks Matt. As always, I appreciate it.
When I said uncharted I meant uncharted for me. I've known some things about matching available aftermarket components, but During this build I've found my lack of actual experience in mating these things has brought out some confidence issues in me. In other words, I know enough to be comfortable talking about this stuff, but when it comes to laying down the "cool green salad of salvation" I wanna make sure I get it right and I start second guessing myself. I currently have Magnaflow cats on my 1990 LT5.. I will be swapping them for OEM C6 Z06 Cats (need to mod them to fit).
Both flow enough as well |

If the L98 manifolds do anything else, it would cause a fitment problem at the transmission. Otherwise, I can't see why they won't fit... However, the LT1 cats do flow very nicely. Lt1 cats hit the frame.. the frame was changed to fit the cats when the 92 came out..
or maybe it was the engine cradle that causes them to not fit |
