Oaklands Datalogging cable and software for my 88

I am thinking about going ahead and buying a data logging cable and getting some software to troubleshoot the problems I have been having. My car is an 88 4+3. Where would be the best place to buy a cable (reasonably priced of course)? What style cable should I purchase?

I have also heard there are some free software packages that work pretty good. Is there any particular ones that any of you would recommend? If you don't like any of the free ones, do you know of a fairly inexpensive one that does a good job?

Thanks for your help.
