hi there guys,
i have brought the plasiguage and are about too on the weekend to start measureing the crank/bearing clearances.
do i also need to measure the rod bearing clearances also please ??
what is the acceptable clearances for both crank and rod bearings please ??
i have three colors to use,green,red and blue.
i heard some where it should be and use the green tabs ones which are .001" - .003 ",is that rite??

If this is a stock or mildly modified street rebuild, go with factory specs. Preferably on the looser end of the tolerance. If it's a real stout engine that's going to get hammered, you'll want to loosen it a bit more yet. Definitely gauge both rod and main clearances. If you don't check, you don't know. Do you have a machinist you've worked with on this? If so, they can likely advise you well on the finer points. Also I'll assume you have some type of manual with all of these critical specs.

thanks for the reply.
this motor im building up is a fairly stout engine, a 388 c.i all forged/light weigh components stroker with all the good name parts.
i think i will talk to my machinist though ,i also have a small block gm engine build guide book with lots of pictures/info e.c.t ,but i just wanted to ask here first thats all.
