Removed everything down to the hubs. Going to put new delco hubs and brakes on the rear. They are sitting on the work bench. Chasing a ticing noise that only I can hear. Sounds like a u-joint. I can move the hub in back and forth motion as some have suggested to do, and there is a little slack and I can hear a slight clunk. Should there be any slack or noise at all? If it is u-joint noise, I had new half shafts and drive shaft built not to long ago by a driveline shop who has moved on!
Again thanks!

You need to get a finger between the seperate pieces of the halfshaft or driveshaft while someone turns the wheel to determine if they're bad.

There are other sources of slack in the drivetrain, some of which are supposed to be there, like slack in the ring and pinion and trans for example.

But, the ticking and/or clunking noise you hear, if only during the first few wheel revolutions, is probably rusty splines and washers on the spindles. A ticking noise could also be loose or unevenly torqued lugnuts.

The fix for rusty splines is to remove the bearings, put antisieze on there, and replace the washers (optional) then bolt it back together and cross your fingers.
