Yup, he had it in stock and I have it now. Finally a 1985 mount with proper dimensions.

As expected, same old slop due to wear on the pedal arm holes... The wear on mine while using a clevis pin over the past 5-6 years has oblonged them, with probably less than 10K miles on it.

But it'll do until I get around to upgrading the design. It has about 3/4" of slop side to side at the bottom of the pedal.

Tom, do you have any general recommendations on the heim joints, useful life, maintenance, etc? I think I replaced mine once early on but they may be due again. The car sits outside in salty ocean air as well, but I have heim joint covers.

So I finally broke my 32 yr old plastic pedal mount. Tried in vain to do a field repair and wasted a beautiful track day in the process, then drove home 2 hours with a piece of spaghetti under my foot.

Lo and behold the guru led me to this page: http://www.uniquecutting.com/products/

http://cdn2.bigcommerce.com/server900 ... 2347978.1280.1280.jpg?c=2

Crossing my fingers that he still has or makes them. I've had mine apart before, years ago for the last time someone tried to make one, but this guy has a design specific to the early cars.

GM's version of quality control is making oval shaped holes so all the screws fit.

We're cleaning up from our "extreme" weather weekend. The wind gusts were almost 40 mph, and it rained a few hundredths. We were all hanging on for dear life.

Blew some fences down including mine and blew half the storm berm into the streets.

Wix 51069 or 51069R?

Yeah the HP-2002 is a good one. I'm guessing the new vettes use a metric filter, probably completely different.

I have a few Toyotas in the fleet which I order OEM filters for in bulk as well. And the motorcycle, although I just found some "car" filters for it that are recommended, but surprisingly the stock honda filter and K&N are not. Go figure.

I just spent $100 on oil filters at amazon, lol. I'll pick up a Rotella filter next time I'm at autozone too. Website says their good for 20 microns.

I was going to switch away from the diesel oil due to supposed detergents in there eating my oil deposits and causing leaks, but I reconsidered for some reason I can't remember. Its supposed to handle the oil contamination better and has good sheer strength for the price. And I like the thicker hot viscosity.

Did it occur during very wet/humid weather? I've seen that happen, and then on a dry afternoon it'd work perfectly. Also it's hard to see corrosion on lead terminals by just looking at them. I remove the cable and sand the post aggressively to a shine.

What p/n? AC delco can change mfr's at any time. Different part numbers may have different sources. And they will discontinue/supersede a low demand part if they can replace it with another similar one. Their oil filter p/n for the L98 is pure junk now.

I liked the large can and internal construction and filter area, but there are other large cans I haven't tried. I can only go about 5" tall safely on the Z51 oil cooler, the M1-302 is almostt 5.75"

I am running a Hastings now and ordered a Purolator pure one, wix (non racing), and a K&N. This time when I cut them open I'll take measurements. I stayed away from the wix racing because it has a much worse micron rating, which I guess makes sense for a race motor where flow filtration probably takes a back seat to flow rate.

What I haven't determined is if in fact there's no use for a anti drainback valve on the 350. Yes it's mounted pointing up, but if it holds oil above it, I could still see a benefit. Hard to say as I don't know how the oil passages go.

I also have a silver Fram laying around to try. Sad thing is I still see people recommending Delco. I guess they must've changed sources and most don't know it yet.

Local AZ, finally stopped stocking my size in M1 and K&N, and Purolator. Down to either Fram or delco garbage, or a tiny can from other brands.

I almost picked up a Shell Rotella filter, medium can RT45, but didn't have time to research it,although it seems to be Purolator made.

So sad. I honestly haven't opened up one of the silver Frams yet, but until I do, the brand as a whole will remain on my shit list. Sigh. And the counter jockey telling me I can't run diesel oil in my corvette parked out front, while I bite my lip. I dont feel like driving across town to Napa for a Wix either. I used to run M1-301 but they are too tall for comfort now that I put the stock oil cooler sandwich back on.

If it passed bills test then yes you probably have a bad battery or bad cable/connection. A bad connection can pass voltage but not enough current.

Yeah don't go cheap on a fuel pump. That's one of those single point of failure items. Or at least get good quality shoes because you'll need em.

My MAF failure had the same symptoms. But it sounds like yours is a fuel pump after all.... Or could even be a bad fuel pressure regulator, that's what keeps the pressure in the fuel rail va just blowing back into the tank.

One of the cruises I went on, there were a bunch of grey hairs in the new C6. One of the ladies checking out my 85 with peeling paint and the clamshell hood up, asking me about my "aftermarket" "formula car" exposed front suspension, she said "maybe some day you'll be able to get a nice one."

Or after a mountain run with all 230 stock ponies, the geezer with a new ride will ask, "wow, what have you got in that thing?"

Lol. Strange crowd.

Not a chance. That adds an inch all the way around. My 26s almost rub at full compression. Obviously narrower fits easier, but 28" is just way way out there. You building a donk?

And it looks hideous. Not quite as bad as those bumper guards some people hang out of their trunk. I really don't see the point in an accessory to protect your vehicle from damage, that looks worse than damage. Like a diaper or something.Resized Image

I'm reading up on it now. I don't doubt going to a gold standard (aka real value) would be a nasty cold shower for most of us.

But it would be nasty only because we're living in a make-believe economy, that is perhaps unsustainable.

Consumer spending is supposed to be a sign of a healthy economy, but if they're not spending their own money, who gives a shit?

I think it was Jiffy Lube that invented the 3000 mile oil change. Every manual I've ever checked was 5,000+. And Jiffy Lube is more likely to destroy your engine than old oil.

So what's better, changing oil before, or after a track day?

Obviously both is better but I'm cheap and lazy.

Let's say I cook my oil at 260+F for awhile at the track, I figure its used up and changing it after is wise. Before a track day, I'll top it off unless I'm near an oil change anyways. But then again you want some good oil film in there for running it WOT too.

Maybe oil only before track, and oil+filter after. BTW, if you really want to take care of your engine, run it WOT soaking hot every now and then. It'll clean out your combustion chambers. I bet most engines suffer from lack of exercise rather than too much.

Based on # of dollars vs lbs of gold it looks like it would be a disaster to go back to the gold standard, but I've read it's not that simple, I don't know the answer.

We supposedly still have more gold reserves than any other country. Why sell it when you can just print more money.

Our currency is balanced on the tip of a needle...

Yeah, governing on personal religious beliefs is stupid and devisive. The presidents personal OPINION or BELIEF on things like gay marriage or abortion or climate change, etc should not be relevant. Yet it seems to be the first qualifier in an election. The executive branch doesn't create laws or pass judgement on constitutionality of them.

It does however command the military, and they never seem to agree with me on that endeavor.

I pressure test mine by purging it, getting it warmed up to the verge of turning the fan on, shut it down and observe/listen for 15 minutes. Pressure peaks with the engine off and dumping heat into the system without flow. I also have my radiator upper shroud trimmed so I can remove it with all hoses connected.

You shouldn't ever get more than a slow dribble into the overflow as the cap relieves expansion into there. And you better have some extra in there for when it cools back off and draws a vacuum to suck it in. I always overfill my coolant reservoir after purging/filling in case of any air pockets. Too much though and it will spill over when really hot.

I don't know who makes up this electability crap. Went through that last go around. Romney was Mr. Electable and all his assumed voters stayed home. Someone like Ron Paul at least worth listening to, discounted from the starting line as not electable.

Trump is clearly in this for Hillary. It's all a big joke and he'll probably tell us how stupid Americans are after he succeeds.

I don't support anyone at this point, it's a one-party system as far as I can tell.

Race to the right followed by a race to the middle. Maybe Bernie Sanders can beat out Hillary. He's one of the few up there not bought and paid for.

We're almost there, only 15 more months of media overload. So I figure you want to read about it here also in between Corvette threads.

I watched the GOP debate yesterday, I thought it was an American Idol rerun at first. Fox News should take their work more seriously. Very unprofessional. I suppose they felt it necessary to boost ratings with their banter, but face it, Trump brought the viewers already.

My review:

Trump - Didn't explode as many hoped for, but I wouldn't have faulted you for it after the crass line of questioning Fox directed at you.

Ben Carson - You sound very smart on rehearsed commentary on Fox News shows, but sounded completely outclassed and out of touch on live TV. Memorize some numbers and use big words like the rest of the guys up there, sheesh.

Scott Walker - You're a charming guy, trying to cheer on Ben Carson. It's like you were watching your 8 yr old's school play from the front row. But I'm still not understanding your response to Wisconsin being worse after your term: "You should have seen it before I got there." I'll fact check.

Rand Paul - Your quips must have sounded clever in your head, but they came out like incoherent piss and vinegar on stage. I know what platform you pretend to stand for, but the rest of the viewers didn't learn anything useful about you. Have a Snickers before the next debate.

Kasich - I don't know anything about you, but your ability to not look like a jackass on stage was admirable. I'll research more. Although at times it looked like you were competing for the Apprentice, not the presidency. If nothing else you can run for VP on Donald's third party ticket.

Rick Perry - The glasses make you look smart, I almost didn't recognize you. Unfortunately they don't make you any smarter. You're more Bush than Bush ever was.

Jeb/Marco - Real tough on immigration. As of last week.

Chris Christie - It's a shame that you'd have more broad national appeal than most on stage, but you'll have to spend the next 6 months stroking bibles and protecting prejudicial wedding cake bakers and saving babies from the mythical organ black market.

Lindsay Graham - I didn't hear anything you said, because your body language was very... loud. You shoulda went pee during one of the commercial breaks dude. Imagine this guy across the poker table from Putin.

Santorum - I honestly wouldn't brag about your "success" of last time around. Finishing better than last is not a success in my book.

Huckabee - Another charming fellow. I'd let you babysit my kids. As for the presidency, well I'll pass, as I've listened to your radio show/sermon.

My closing statement... I love Jesus more than all of you combined! I want my 2 hours back.

No not the toggle from the power supply..This switch is on the motor shaft itself, behind the backing plate. It's some type of centrifugal switch that closes a contact as the motor starts spooling up.

Well apparently your quote was very much taken out of context then Gris, although the language is poor and open to interpretation.

11. Calls for Member States to support weapons collection, disarmament,
demobilization and reintegration of ex-combatants, as well as physical security and
stockpile management programmes by United Nations peacekeeping operations
where so mandated;
Nothing to see here, move along...

But eff the UN anyways, stepping on sovereignty since 1945.

One of our coworkers had an air rifle in his office the other day. The reactions people have to guns, or anything resembling one, never ceases to amaze and disappoint me. We have already disarmed ourselves regardless through democracy of the stupid. The rest is just loose ends.

My weatherstrip sticks to my tint, sticks to the roof, it's just sticky. Until it rains anyways. I pulled a big chunk off this morning when removing the roof for the first time in awhile. A big motivating chunk. It needs replacing anyways. Sad as it's GM and only about 5 years old but was never treated with anything and I slapped the roof on and it bonded to it.

What should I be putting on new stuff to prevent sticking, and to preserve it? And hopefully not be greasy/messy.

I was thinking sunscreen, or aero 303 or something for the UV.

You can do wide open exhaust with test pipe on an 84-85 pretty easily and still be able to revert back to emissions legal if you want. You can buy the rectangular flanges and fab a test pipe, or convert to 3" round instead and use band clamps.

Technically, you can get cited for it, since driving 3k miles a year with no catalytic converter is apparently a notch above torturing and killing protected lions.

Of course I only run my test pipe at the race track. Only takes 5 minutes to swap it. Hold on, some guys in black suits knocking at the door...

It's so bad here they make the out-of-state military guys smog their stuff. I was in line at the base for a parking pass and the guy ahead of me from Florida, with a DIESEL, couldn't get a pass, lol. And when I had a new truck, I had to pay a "smog abatement fee". I have to pay a fee to not get smogged. Unbelievable.

FWIW my Corvette passes the sniffer fine with no emissions on it other than a single Carsound cat. No air tubes, smog pump, nothing. Although it's burning so much oil now I think that is going to be the nail in the coffin.

Ouch. I used to leave my receiver hitch in for other idiots to run into, until one day I hammered my shin into it walking behind the truck.

He should have to forfeit his hitch now.

On the bright side, my vette looks slightly better today, relatively speaking.

I run semi-syn Motorcraft (gasp) in our newer vehicles because I'm cheap. It's the same price as dino oil. I don't know who makes it.

Plus if the oil leaks or fouls or burns off before you can even get to 5K, then you're not really seeing the benefits of the top shelf stuff. I spend the $ saved on the best quality filter I can find. You'll have to deviate from the GM gods there. AC-Delco for example, is the worst quality I've cut open, worse than orange Fram.

I wish I could run synthetic in the vette for some of the heavy abuse and temperature it sees, but because of leaks I use diesel oil instead, which isn't your average oil. Plus it's good for flat tappet cams and good in the motorcycle with the wet clutch! Rotella T 15-40

My 85 was raised on dino oil and had some oozing but when I put synthetics in right after purchase it was a disaster. Its never been the same since. 15 years of sludge.... gone.

So speaking of compressors, the oil is nasty on mine. I assume it's not too picky and I can just throw in a old quart of 10-40 I have laying around?

Or do the Corvette guys use Mobil 1 in their compressors?

On teflon tape, in case you haven't used it, wind it clockwise around the threads, when looking at the tapered end. If you do it the wrong way, the tape will ball up and come off when you thread it in.

Also, never use it on straight threads. Straight threads by their design do not make a seal. May be obvious but I come across a lot of plumbers that don't even know this.

I usually avoid pipe dope except on house gas lines or tore up threads, it's messy and never really dries.

Followup to my Husky compressor I was whining about... The motor was fine. I finally got the courage and time to disassemble and there was a contactor that energizes I think to switch it over from the start capacitor to the run capacitor. I think. Some light sanding and it's good as new.

Anyways, life lesson is, let it arc awhile, let it rub, let it squeal, let it leak. Then when you go to fix it 2 months later it's easy to find the shiny/burned/oily spot.

It's hard to imagine not knowing how to swim, I guess we grew up with a backyard pool, but I can't remember ever being taught.

Grown adults still drown in the surf and undertow. I guess that's got to be more inability to stay calm than inability to swim. I've been held underwater by my surfboard, slammed into the ocean floor, pulled into undertows, etc, and never once panicked, thought it was kinda fun even.

Sounds reasonable to me, legal or otherwise, assuming he warned him first, or could have.

Maybe rc helicopter owner will think twice about how he operates his next expensive toy.

I'm ordering one of these:

Because if you wait until you need it, it's too late.

You mean Husqvarna or actually Husky?

I have mine wired to stay on until the doors are locked. And some other fancy custom b.s. that I never use that sounded like a good idea at the time. I wired a "latching relay" to my keyless entry to keep the accessory powered until the door lock ground hits it. In fact I used the 4th button to turn on the accessory circuit remotely.

A timer would be good, especially if the windows were added to it, even without auto-buttons. Stock they are dead with the car off.

But if you want remote windows, then they should always be powered. I can't see any purpose for remote windows within 10 minutes of getting out of the car. Personally I would want it for airing the car out from inside my office on a hot day, or closing it up before rain, etc. And I sure would not want a 2nd remote, I would have to combine it with a keyless remote.

And maybe a down bump button, that will drop both windows an inch with a single touch, would be useful, while you're in there.

Most of the landscapers around here use Echo, so that's what I bought when I was shopping for a trimmer. Saved a whole lot of time researching.

I have that second husky one Bill linked a ways up, about 10 years now. I need a new motor though, having it on the porch in beach weather is killing it . Id expect that with any motor though.

Great size and portability for its size. I got it because it was the highest capacity 110v I could find. Noise is reasonable, belt driven. But then again I see drywall guys using pancake compressors to do wall texture and those guns use as much as any air tool.

I gave air tools a try, more trouble than it was worth, needing a whole nother set of sockets and having to drag a hose behind your tool everywhere . Although the IR impact gun I got was a dud too, could barely remove my hand tightened lug nuts. I pretty much only use it for tires and blowing things off now, and running nail guns etc for house work. 220 won't be as useful outside of the garage because it won't as portable, needing a ton of hose to get anywhere.

I've always been tempted to do a custom set of headers.
