The 84-93 vettes have a tv cable that conncets the tv valve to the throttle body. This valve uses throttle to ramp up or down line pressures inside the trans. It is the only way a nonelectronic transmission can sense load. VERY important to keep this valve properly adjusted for long transmission life. I recommend doing it every time you change the oil. Very easy to do on the pre 92 cars. Consult the Helms book for 92-93.
Unlike other early transmissions(before the 700r4/4l60), it is NOT a kickdown cable.

Great tip Pete! I re-built my 88 700R4 a couple years ago and I sometimes still don't feel its set right but I followed the instructions like you advised
Pete can you do write up on how to properly adjust it?

Adjusting the tv cable is quick and easy(pre 92 units)
Pop the hood and find the tv cable. It is located in the throttle bracket mounted to the plenum. Lowest cable is the correct one. With engine off, push the d shaped button and hold it in. While depressing the button, pull the cable housing rearward, toward the firewall. It will only move 1/4 to 1 inch and bottom out.Relase the button. Then grab the throttle body linkage and spin the throttle wide open. The cable will click, click, click into position.
Because of the asr, 92 and 93 need a very specific adjustment, per the Helms book. I do not have than info handy. Hopefully another member will chime in with that procedure.

94-96 have no adjustment, because they have no cable. The 94-96 use the electronic version of the 700r4/4l60.....It is the 4l60e

Do not try to use this adjuster to change shift characteristics, it is Not for that. that can be accomplished by the valve body inside the pan. screwing with this and getting it wrong will melt your trans. when done adjusting the tv cable Always get a friend to push down the accelerator pedal to make sure full throttle is being achieved at the pedal (you may be surprised) Bowtie overdrves transmissions has a great writeup on this system. TCI has a constant pressure valve body (BUT IS TOO NEW to say if good or bad) Aloha
