Well, I got to see the 1st hour of the race thanks to FOX
LOL

Are the Vettes and RX8's in the same class?

If so, what are the restrictions on the Vettes?

The Vettes and the RX-8s are in the same class (GT) along with the Porsche GT3a, Pontiac GXPs, Ferraris 360s, and (single) Mustang.

Only one Corvette is remotely competitive - the Stevenson Motorsports car is 31st overall, 14th in class, and climbing slowly but steadily.

The GT class is rather wide open... There are Pontiac GXP6s there... with V8s and rear wheel drive!

The RX8 should never be competitve, but they have a lot of engine mods to make them such.

David Donahue just won. On the anniversary of his Dad's win in 1969. Eerie, really.

Don't they have the 3 rotor engine?

the street car only has 2

It would be like the Corvettes running a V12

It was really nice for Donahue to get the win and a good race if you like the DP's which I don't. Especially compared to ALMS.

And lighting up the whole track like daytime is good for the fans, I guess but, it takes a little bit away from what I think a 24 hour race should be. Racing in total darkness with just your headlites is a different deal.

Donahue beat JMP fair and square. It did look like the Porsche powered car had a little more motor though, especially at the top of the curve. At the risk of another boring rant, why does every motor racing series default to Spec cars? I want innovation, not cookie cutter racing.

Disgusting isn't it?

What was really bad was them showing scenes from previous Daytonas when the real racecars were running.

Daytona is but a shadow of what it was.

at least they have different manufacturers and engines in the DP class.

Not the best looking cars IMHO, but at least there's some development going on.

Agreed Brian, but compared to ALMS the Rolex cars suck.

I mean come on, the Banner Engineering car was champ last year so what do they do? They give it weight and restrictor plate, so that there will be guaranteed a zillion 911's (or 996 or whatever they cal a 911 these days) in GT. Why develop something only to have the rules legislate you into running "the" approved car?

Right, the GT class was Porsche GT3 Cup cars and a couple of other guys.

At least the GTs and DPs are all in the same race, so you're only bored once.

Daytona Winner Underweight - No DQ
joemoia;
I stumbled across this on the GARRA forum:

http://community.grand-am.com/forums/ ... d1-4f01-8bba-1cea06e33a84

Roger Edmunson posted -

From the press release:
Quote:
The winning No. 58 Brumos Racing Porsche Riley was found to be out of compliance for minimum vehicle weight in post-race technical inspection. The car was found to be 12 pounds underweight. The team was fined $5,000 in addition to five driver, team and manufacturer points. This will not affect the race results.

Curiously, I found no such press release at the GARRA website
