On my second cluster now, still doesn't work; is it most likely the sending unit gone bad? or could there be something else? Thanks!

The sending unit is very expensive, so try a simple test first.

Pull the wire off of the sender and touch it to bare ground with the IGN on. Does it stay at zero or does it peg?

If you get no change at all, and this is your second cluster, then it is most likely your sender or the wiring from the sender.

The computer 'might' be involved with the interpretation of the sender reading so maybe a C4 guy knows more about it. If it's direct, there are only three things to look at. The sender, the wiring, or the gauge itself.

your getting nothing? that's odd. Check the wiring. The connection down there is prone to heat related damage. The temp sender is down above the oil filter housing, on the block.

BTW, the sender isn't very expensive for the C4 and the computer does nothing. This is a direct signal to the IP.

I bought an '82 oil temp gauge sender for my '77, and it was close to $45. As far as senders go, that's horribly expensive. LOL. What do they cost for C4s?

I would still check the wiring and try to test the circuit.

Two IPs tell me that unless you are jinxed, the sensor or the wiring is at fault.

Well, after a nice long ride on the highway tonight, the oil temp gauge (slowly) moved up to about halfway point, which appears to be normal operating temperature. It seems that idling while not moving, even for extended periods, won't move the oil temp guage!

On the same ride my left front speaker started working again, which had quit recently. I'm on a roll!

Thanks all for your help...
