C5's, and C6's have no character imo.

If I was to buy any of those body style's in the future, and I prob will, it will be a C5 Z06. IMO, it's the best bang for the buck car out there today.

My new 4 post lift!

I thought I would post some pictures of my new garage toy. It is a Direct-Lift model #PP8S (8000 lbs. capacity) 4 post lift.

I had this house (garage) built about 1.5 years ago, and I had the 3rd garage planned out for a 4 post lift. I had the garage tracks modified so I could stand under the Corvette with the garage door open. It looks like my measurements worked out as I can stand under the Corvette with the garage door open with several inches too boot. The garage is 23 feet deep, and the ceilings are 11 feet high fyi.

Infact to my surprise with the garage door shut, I was able to stand under my Chevy Trailblazer. I didn’t really expect that, but I’ll take it!

All in all I am happy so far with the lift. It raises all the way to the top in about 1 minute, and lowers in half that time.

I am looking forward to using it for maintenance and space saving. I was somewhat hesitant is purchasing the lift because it was not made in USA, but after seeing the quality of the lift, I am satisfied with what it has to offer. The only thing that I didn’t get was the drip trays, but I was promised they would be shipped to my place(they are on back order).

Here are a few pictures....

At the end of the day, it's only a car.

You have to do what you have to do.

So does this mean you wont be bugging me anymore?

It was fun!

I love shooting my glock. In my opinion it's one of the best hand guns in the world. It has never jamned with thousands of rounds.

Pete.

If you do a search on the CF (not sure if i posted the flow #'s on this forum or not). I believe my street ports flowed in the 28x cfm range, but more then the Edelbrocks anyways.

You could always freshen that motor of yours, and throw on the eliminators and see if that meets your goal.

i hear what your saying. before jim started the 421, i was thinking about selling it, and buying a 04 Z06. but then i thought long and hard, and i would of had to mod the C5 as well.

after i am done all of this work and invested alot of cash into my 88, it wouldnt make sense selling it, plus i simple love this car.

glad u kept it. i enjoy reading your threads.

C4's will do that to you. I know how you feel.

Thanks for investing all the time and money into performing the tests. Your documentation will live on for years.

Good luck on the next project. I suggest something with a solid rear axle, that won't cost $500+ every time a screw breaks.

solid axle is great for 1/4 mile, but it's nice to corner and brake.

i second what joe says. even though josh and i dont see eye to eye (well he is 5"6), i thank him for doing all of this testing. sooner or later, we will see what the exact same AFR heads josh used with 38 more cubes. i just have to get my ass in gear and finish it up.

Very true. It seems like the AFR's out performed the TFS heads, but by a slim margin.

It sounds like someone will be getting a deal on the car.

Alot of guys seem to think that you will get the tune dialed in, and trap more mph then the AFR, and I am one of them.

Goodluck!

It is very interesting that so far the TFS heads have out mph the AFR heads, but the E.T. goes by a hair to the AFR heads.

I think most thought you would gain 2 mph, and possibly 3 mph in trap speed, and I was one of those guys.

Still kind of puzzling given the dyno charts, but it was still a good read.

But Jon,But Jon, don't you have 2x the money in your car compared to what one of these cost?

I know you're just sticking the knife in deeper , but that's not quite an apples to apples comparison.

My car is a helluva lot faster (even accounting for tires) then these would be. I have probably three to five times more money in mine, but I'd say the breakdown on my expenditures (not counting initial price of car) is something like this:

40% Necessary, meaning safety equipment, gutting car, suspension, brakes, wiring, lexan windows, etc.

35% Motor, which you wouldn't have to do to make one of these

25% Repairs, with 75% of that being Optispark problems

For comparison, my buddy bought a C4 slightly more prepared than one of these cars for $13.5K last year before the economy tanked. This year you can get C4 race cars of various states of preparedness for less than $10K.

And to Brian's comment, why the hell would you buy one if you're not going to race it, vintage or otherwise? Nothing about the C4 (with the arguable exception of the ZR-1) is collectable unless you have a huge museum and a huge bankroll.

Do you have any links to the C4 race cars (forsale) in the $8k-$15 range?

I am looking for an air intake system, and TPIS is no longer carrying there unit (might be doing a run in the winter).

Here are a few that I have found:

http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000050F $279.95

http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000050F $199.95

http://www.ecklers.com/product.asp?p...2&dept_id=1758 $299.99

I am also switching from MAF to Speed Density, and I need to figure something out in regards to a coupler from the air box to the throttle body. Is there anything aftermarket made for my application?

I need to feed the 421 with some more air. Are any of these products any good?

If you guys have any pics that would be great. I know Kevin has an aftermarket unit, and I am curious what fabrication work if any he did to his unit....

Thanks!

Another issue:

As you can see in the pictures, I am having another issue in regards to bolting on the 58MM Holley TB to the TPIS Miniram.

I took off the stock lower TB piece, and bolted it on the Holley unit(lower unit has the sensors/pipe). The issue now is that the pipe is rubbing up against the waterneck and I can't bolt up the TB.

For the record this is the TPIS waterneck, and not an aftermarket one.

Anyone else experience this issue? Any ideas what to do?

I have B&B full 3 inch with the reasonator, and 2 cats.

If I went with muffler eliminators, do you think I would gain power with the 421?

I know my cats will be a restriction, but I was wondering how much of a restriction the mufflers will be?

That is exactly what I was going for when I put the car together. I will never bracket race it or anything, just wanted to keep it all stock looking and run fast, and even faster at the flip of a switch. To date the car is still 100% bone stock appearing on the outside except for stock LT1 exhaust tips instead of L98 tips, and the drag radials. Inside it is stock appearing except for the stereo and rear speakers and the bottle. Under the hood, different story!

I bet it doesnt sound stock?

C5 or C6 upgrade is all you will probably need Todd unless you are doing some serious road racing.

Joe.

I am also looking for a deal on a TKO 600, but it certainly won't be easy. The guys that buy those, don't seem to sell them.

I bought those TFS heads a few years back. They were as cast, and were flowed on the EXACT same flow bench as my 195 Street Port AFR Eliminators.

I paid pretty much the exact price for both heads, and the AFR's outflowed the TFS heads by a country mile (especially on the exhaust side).

I don't have any performance #'s for those 2 cylinder heads Joe. I only have the flow numbers if you care.

But for me, If I have to spend an extra $400-$500 to gain another 25-35hp/20-30 tq, that's what they call a "no-brainer".

I had a set of the street ports, and sold them for the comp ports. The difference was about $500 in regards from selling and buying.

And yes, guys will spend $2000 on cylinder heads. I know a few who have the comp ports myself, and I am just one guy.

Let us know your decision.

Be careful stickin' that chest out stick boy, my friend with the '98 Cobra running 17 lbs boost and water/meth did the same thing. He ended up bending a shift fork in his Tremec and later admitted it was because he was tired of looking at my taillights over and over again so he tried too hard. Alot can be said for a properly stalled auto and a car that dead hooks on every launch.

And yes, per your request, I'll buy and send you a pink sharpie to use.

This should be interesting, but I think Josh might have your number. I ran a 10.75 at 128 in bad air on a stock bottom end/stock heads LT4 with a hotcam, ET Streets, 150 shot, and a Centerforce clutch with Josh filming the run at the same track he runs at. With his new set up, Josh should be at least 3 to 4 tenths faster than that on a 150 shot. I suspect with a 250 shot he would see low 10's.

The only way to tell for sure is to get it to the track!

10.75 @ 128 nitrous pass - 6.91 in the 1/8 mile

So when are you buying that new Dart block? I bet you would love to build a 427 LTx.

There are alot of hardcore drag racers on that forum, and very informative.

My point was that it wasnt this forum's fault or booting him, or the CF forum. I think it's simple his nature.

Both of my AFR's (street ports and comp ports) were flowed, and they flowed alot more then the #'s you are stating. Both flow #'s have been documented on the CF, and maybe even of Guru.

Even my street ports out flowed your RHS220cc head, and they measured 195cc.

I paid less then $1300 for my street ports. I have a feeling there isn't a head out there that will beat it for the price.

dan0617: You a great guy, and I love what you have done, and especially tested your combo. Remember HP/TQ cost money. The difference between the street ports and comp ports is $600. If one was to gain 20-35 hp for only $600, most would agree in the world of high performance SBC1 stuff, that is a no brainer my friend.

Buying quality stuff costs money! I have not seen anything from Patriot, Edelbrock, Dart or Brodix that competes with the street ports for the dollar.

Heck my good friend has a set of ported Dart 215cc that measured 226cc, and they still don't out flow my little 195's.

Rick, maybe we can get you in on this beer buying and timeslip signing wager. Todd is in and he is in Texas. I'll be mailing him my timeslip to sign, I'll just have him mail it directly to you to sign, then you can mail it back to me. Just make sure you don't sign over Josh's signature, I need that to show up when I scan it in!!

Not only am I going to beat you, I'm going to do it naturally aspirated.

You'll have to ship me those beers, I'm too far away to join in the fun.... I drink Vielle Bon Secours, its my favorite, if you're unsure where to get it, here's a link.

That's what I like to hear Todd. Beat him with no NOS. I don't know what your e.t. goal is, but i am guessing it's south of 11.00 and closer to 10.00.

They won't let you run at MIR regardless of the day. You'll get one pass, they'll tell you not to go that fast again, then you'll get booted. It's one of the strictest tracks I've ever ran at.

Work will have me in the Baltimore area a ton over the next year or so. A trip to PA isn't out of the question, how are the tracks there as far as tech is concerned? Can you run there without issues?

I rib Rick because he's a dip shit. It doesn't have anything to do with knowing him, my fist size, or anything. The guy is a jackass. Plain and simple. Occasionally, I'll get tired of his shenanigans and bust him a bit.

Dan seems cool, and unlike dip shit actually mods his car. I got no problems with the guy.

I'm still stuck out of town for work, I won't be back until Monday. The car should be up and running shortly after I get back, assuming I don't have to travel anymore for the next few weeks.

josh talks tough for a midget! actually the 421 is going in this weekend sweetheart!

Dan.

Josh talks a good game, but his fist is about the same size as an 11 year old girl. Josh has been ribbing me for years, but it's acceptable because it's him.

So when and where are you guys meeting? I would love to attend, but I am slightly busy at home.

Keep us updated. Hard to beat a stall converter Josh!

I might have a few pics of my own this weekend.

Congrats on the 10 sec run!

Don't know how long the D36 will last though.

I'm babying it on the launch and getting a mid 1.5 60'.

Future plans is solid rear and a nitrous launch, and likely water-meth injection and a 250 shot (up from 200), if I keep it that long. It's burning me out!

Would be cool to get it in the 9's though!

Our cars are getting old, and this stuff comes with the territory?

I bet the Dana36 doesnt think a 1.5 (60 foot) is "babying" anything. A street car with drag radials in my parts that is driven to the track and driven home with a 1.5 60 foot with a 10 sec pass is kicking butt!

Congrats on that 10 second pass man. I guess you are staying with the 200 shot? Don't let Josh talk to you into a 400 shot.
