The rear is already done and has almost 5k miles. I put a 355 on the rear and changed just about everything but the rear diff. The bottom pic is a 355 compared to a 315.

I changed from a 91 to a lt k member.

did a mock up in a junker just to make sure as every thing was built out of the car. Also turned down some fittings and welded them in for a cleaner job.

Been working on a ls swap for a while now along with many other projects on my c4. It's been on other forums and after talking with Bogus on FB the last couple days, some don't go there because of obvious reasons. Going to start a thread on the motor and do the rear when I have a chance...plus going through this will help me remember what all I've forgot and help me remember what I need to do in order for installing.

Have you considered a iron block? One with vvt could be good for track. Power curve is lil different. Lower compression. simple cam change will net more HP than a ls2. That's if you choose parts wisely. Don't kno how much you have followed my swap.....I should have about 8k in the engine components along and if my math is correct, have the ability to make 700-750 whp.

I watch a lot of ppl just buy parts at random with out studying what the end out come will be.

the plan at 1st was to have a small hi-rise of about 2 inches..but the scoop sat a a angle that did not look good with what i had to work with. i was in the junkyard the other day and was lookin at a t/a with ram air and was thinking of a way to use that hood on one down the road. it would look better with the hi-rise hood. its gave me alot of ideas when i saw it.

if your looking for a later model motor...i've been thinking bout the LQ9 truck motor later on down the road. shortblock is bout the same but iron. a nice set of heads, cam and intake and you can be sum where round 450hp or so depending on cam heads etc. i have not researched it enuff to kno all the facts but there is a lot to consider..like all the brackets and placement of acceseries on the front of the motor. a friend of mine bought a truck motor sold the things he didnt need...bought heads from GM complete...cam from comp cams and a used intake off ebay. says he has 3500 in motor with his labor and making 425-450 hp and the motor only had 12k miles. its got me to thinking a lot about it. you also have to consider harness/headers/mounts and several other lil odds that will add up. trans upgrade to. its just a thought.

i'm tracking down a no-idle condition on my 91. suspect the IAC and popped the hood 5 minutes ago.

I've come to the realization that i want/need to delete my AIR injection system for the following reasons:

1: the lifetime smog pump from the parts store loses the bearing at least once a year, and while free to replace, is a PITA since i'd rather be driving than working on the car.

2: i was looking to take out the IAC and this big AIR injection deal is right in the way of getting a socket on it, and it's just plain ugly.

3: hoses on said black deal in IAC's way are a tad beat

4: reaching down tracing one of them that heads down under the manifold, it's broken off.

5: i'm willing to bet i can pass e-check without it since we do not do visual and i pass with every other GM small block EFI that i remove it from.

so who makes a delete pulley for the pump itself, what size caps and plugs will i need for things, and where are the fittings located that need removed? i'm sure i'll find those easily while just tracing lines/hoses but i'd like to have the proper size caps and or plugs before starting the job and so i do not have to guess.

thanks!

pretty nice bracket here.

From what I can see on the under hood photos that scoop should be functional now. It could probably use some 1 to 11/2 inch soft weatherstripping or foam to make a seal between the air box and scoop. Nice work either way. Way much better than I could have done.

my plan is to do away with the org box...cut the ducting to where it will have a lil box to where the scoop shoots air straight in to the duct and find sum sort of inverted filter to fit around the tb better....im sure i'll come up with sum thing later on down the road.

As far as the non-pop up headlights go.....

When I first looked at the above picture with the lighting and the over spray on the headlight doors it looked like the clear panel covering the non pop up headlights and I thought that looks pretty cool. The over spray kinda looked like a reflection in the glass covering the headlights.

Then I looked at the other pictures then I realized that they were the standard headlights. My Bad.

No Biggie if you don't like them. Just kinda threw that out there for discussion.

Gary

I do like them...just on a budget. i still have a lot to buy Gaskets/wheels/tires/flares/fiberglass top/paint. lol but i did get my rotors in yesterday and thats go me pumped...so i plan on spending the rest of the week striping and priming.

I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread detailing what one might need to have when going out on your first auto-cross or road course event. It might also be nice to have a place where one could read up on how to adjust your Vette while you are there.

Here are a few ideas:

Tire guage
portable air tank or small compressor
How about some race wheels? (you don't want to wear out your street tires)
Torque wrench (for wheels)
jack
Blanket (to work on)
Extra bottle of oil (you have to keep them full)
Ice chest (filled with water!)
suntan lotion
gloves (for driving)
helmet
shoes for driving (wrestling shoes work great; small soles)
rags and hand cleaner (nothing worse than driving with greasy hands)
folding chair (it's nice to have a seat)
On hot days--It's nice to bring shade--a large umbrella or canopy

How do you get this stuff to the track? Either tow your Vette on a trailer or drag a trailer behind you. As in:
Resized Image

Please fill free to add to this list. For those who just want to try a few runs and don't want to bring all this stuff, just show up with your helmet and a Vette in good condition.

Good thread.....as I may one day do a lil auto-cross.

no problem shadow. thanks for the good words!!! here is the underside........its not finished and nasty as the car is coming up on 200k. the center support was my reference point, it could not or i shouldn't be cut or the hood would loose a lot of support for the scoop...in other words it would give problems for the scoop later down the road with flex. i'll have to get a shoot with the hood almost closed..if thats what you are looking for. also a pic of the front bumper where i didnt like the tag pocket. gives the car a cleaner look and also compliments the hood.

the only mods i did under the hood was to remove the factory turn knobs and replace with reg bolts on the breather box. the scoop lays down the in pocket between the breather box and the ducting that runs over the radiator support.

COPO, do you have any step by step photos to show how you morphed the Camero SS hood to the C4 clam shell? I kie the look as it doesn't disrupt the lines of the hood. Bet it will be super sharp when it is painted,

no sir i sure didnt. the hood was laying from a wrecked ss..i kelpt looking at it and thought it would look good. i cut the scoop out and did a lot of measuring and thinking 3 days worth. my buddy walked buy on a friday evening and said cut it!!!!! so i drilled a hole big enuff to see if i had room to where it would drop down....my measurements was pretty dead on.....so out come the cut off wheel and a big hole.....it could have not been moved back an 1/2 inch or foward a 1/2 inch. i only have a lil less than a 1/4 inch from the scoop to the top the breather lid. i was worried about clearence and how the lines would work out and flow with the hood rather than looking like a wack job. ever one that has seen the car likes it. it looks a lot better in person than pix i think. its pretty cool when you walk from the back of the car and don't notice it till u get about to the front wheel. after i striped a bad paint job off the hood an got it all in primer, several ppl around ask what happen did i get a scratch....lol they didnt even notice the difference with the scoop.

Paint it blurple.

Or the old Diablo color, Montego Blue.. that would look sexy as hell.

i do have a couple colors in mind....the GS colors i love but with a lil different hood stripe..but its not a GS!
and the other is a plan ole run of the mill color that you proably would never notice untill you walked upon the car
