I couldn't agree more. They let me return stuff I've had for almost two years. Circuit Chitty won't take something with a receipt in an unopened box after 30days. Only one of these companies is profitable...you guess which. (OK so I know I can't really do a meaningful cause / effect but it feels good to say it)

This show is being put on by Madison Motorsports, the motorsports club started by James Madison University students several years ago.

It is April 5th from 11-4. (sorry for the short notice)

Link to forum with event details...
MMSports Event Details

These are not a bunch of spoiled rich kids showing off their HS grad presents. This club is about motorsports. They won the NASA Mid Atlantic worker of the year award and have flagging programs with two other organizations. They have alumni that race Spec Miata, Porsche 944 and several instructors. Events are usually auto-x, karting and track days. The students spend hours flagging to earn free driving events.

The event is on-campus and attempts to attract new members to the car and motorsports hobby.

FWIW, the name of the on-campus lot....C4

Yeah,Spectator I sat in on the last 5 minutes of the instructor meeting on the second day and the last thing they talked about was how forgiving they were of the off's, only 2 anyway, in wet day 1 and off's in day two would not be tolerated. I don't get it (the hot-doggers that is), nobody is going to be impressed and risking someone else's well being unecessarily is just poor character. We all make mistakes but if you need to be told twice....

CSS and Livin...get out there. Do not be fooled you do not need a race prepped car and the instuctor will make sure you are safe, doing the right thing and you will have a blast. When I pointed people by on the wrong side their instructors did not allow them to pass and mine simply said that it was the wrong side, get back on line and let them by at the next passing zone. There is no passing in turns and only pre-determined areas with permission. If there was this much communication on the highways accidents would be cut in half.

I did my first HPDE at Summit Point Raceway in WV this weekend.

First off, I want to say thanks to those who work as flaggers, grid, and in tech. It’s a tough job especially on days like this (poor weather) to just sit in the bucket and stare at the track for hours to keep it safe out there. Also to those who instruct, I can’t say enough about what you guys do…jumping into unknown cars with strangers. I really felt safe and confident which allowed me to drive, to learn the track and get me used to checking the flag stations and so on. If you’re reading this and have been intimidated about doing your first event…don’t be.

Weather the first day was cold and rainy but I was ready with wet gear and what not. When they told everybody in the meeting that windows had to be down all the new folks were disappointed. I however had the advantage of C4 weather stripping which meant window up or down I knew I was getting wet.

I went into the tech line where a friend was doing wheel and light checks. I stepped on the brake pedal and asked if it was OK that 1 of 4 bulbs was out. His response, “Yeah, but go ahead and hit the pedal” “WTF???, I am on the pedal”…I had NO brake lights. Tech was over and into the driver meeting I go wondering if I’m going to be driving that day. The bulb that was out was really toasted and took the stop lamp fuse with it.

Then the weather changed, about every 30 minutes.

I'm sure the more experienced guys may have been disappointed but it was good for me. My instructor was very much set on making sure I did not spin. I was very slow early on, but it forced me to get smooth or get out of the way. The track dried out a little toward the end of the day and allowed me to push it a little more.

A few "DOH!" moments, I think I pointed people by the wrong side about 4 times in the first couple sessions. The good part is I didn't have to point anybody by in the last session.

I got SMOKED by a yellow Mini which was hard to swallow. Oh well, I told myself he probably had traction control, ABS, and all that other crap. (this moment is revisited)

Day two, clear dry and chilly, I got a new instructor..Spec Miata Racer, Allen. I had the guy I needed the first day and this was the guy I needed on the second day. He was big on forcing me to use all the track, get the wheel unwound and get on the power. Much more aggressive and trusted me a lot more to save the car...several times. My vision REALLY improved which was something I really wanted to have happen and I was hitting the line really well in 8 of the 10 turns.

I/we were having a blast. I know it's not a race but when you realize that you're being pointed by more than pointing by with the same group, it's a sign you're getting better.

Then I had the oil and power steering issue. I have a vacuum pump for the crankcase and it is just sucking too hard and blowing the oil remnants right out of the catch can breather filter. It got on the header so a little smoke, then on the belt for no power steering!! Made it in the pit OK though.

Allen made me feel real good about how I was driving the track and handling the car.

He mentioned that his student, in the yellow Mini, the day before just wasn't getting it, even after he drove his car to show him where he needed to be.
I said "So that was you driving when I got steamrolled?"
"Yeah, and I always like taking out the Vettes" blowing his finger like a gun
What a relief, best news of the weekend.

So long post but it was my first time...I had a blast didn't hurt the car, me or anyone else.

It's been a few years but here goes...

At the base of the window a metal support that the window bolts to. That horizontal support has a plastic fitting that connects it to a vertical rod. The horiz rod supports the window, the vertical guides it as the ribbon pulls it up and down. Not much to really come loose...

What you are describing happen on my 1st 85 and it was a broken ribbon. The repair is a swtich to a late model scissor type regulator.

Nothing a few waffle fries won't help you get through...

Nor was it an opportunity to test the system on the world stage at a very important time in the global missile arena.

Oh Yeah... and go Dad! That was the missile system my dad worked on leading up to retirement.

Advice needed for retail site "shopping cart"

My wife has started a business selling cookies...very good cookies packaged for corporate gifts, wedding favors etc.

We are having the site setup but need some input on who or what to use for setting up credit card processing with a shopping cart.

I know we have a pretty good IT contingent here so any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. We are currently considering Paypal (eehhh) and Quicken (not sure they have a cart add-on available)

Thanks!

Absolutely, one thread per car and update as necessary. If you have a problem ask in tech, when you solve it, chronicle the solution in project.

I belong to a forum that is a part of my college's motorsports club, Madison Motorsports born at James Madison University. It is for students and alumni.

On the forum there is a tech disscusion section but also a "Member's Projects" setion. It is a great way to present ongoing projects. Here, it would be like a massive knowledge base. Imagine having 20-30 cars that have every repair, restoration and mod chronicled like a story.

Here is a link to the site and you can scroll down to the Member Project section and take a look. It's a great way to present the information. It is a section full of answers to questions not even asked yet.

I think it would be a great addition and unique to C4Guru. (among vette sites anyway)

Thanks guys.

That gives me few ideas to go on. I never really thought about a strap, that would prolly work great. And, if I don't get to it I'll tell'em sway bar.

I know there is at least one sand trap at T1.

Option 3 is to brake earlier and stay on the track

I am getting ready fro my first HPDE in March at Summit Point. I remember reading that they want you to have tow hooks in case you end up in a gravel pit. I don't know that they are required for novice groups but it's something that could prevent additional damage and generally not end up being the douche with the buried car causing an extended yellow flag.

If someone could help me out with pics of the install and a good source it would be much appreciated

If you find a group let me know...

I'm on my fourth and likely my final setup. Headers, H pipe, corsa mufflers (no resonator). I have been through dynomax ultra flo, flowmaster and complete corsa. To be honest the best exterior sound came from the dynomax but I usually drive from inside the car so I'm sticking with corsa. They really should offer just the muffler.

I got a KD flare kit... I would like to get one with the ability to do a mushroom flare - needed for the brake lines on the C4.

My tubing bender is an el cheapo from autozone. Works fine.

+1

I have been off and on trying to find the size of the front brake lines to replace a couple sections. I put in a line lock and want to remove it. The line lock came with tubing smaller than the existing tubing.

I tried doing some tubing with a Ridgid tool, and it just doesn't hold the small tubing very well.

That sucks man. I remember early on when your moderation approach had the underpinnings of making it a great place. I noticed that over the last year + it seemed you were so fed up... now we know why.

Are you going to continue going to the Cruise-In? There is talk here of Guru cruise ins which I would love to see. The last CI I had fun at you took pics of my drag wheels in the car. Not many C4's there and since the intro of the C6, if you don't hang out in OT....forget it about.

Anyway, hopefully the fun will quickly replace the bitter taste.

A former Range Rover tech here that would prefer to tow with my 180K 2001 Silverado any day. They are nice inside and very capable off-road machines ut wayyy underpowered. The engine design, and I don't know how much they changed with the latest iteration, was a 60's Buick design used because it was all aluminum.

My wife recently got me a millermatic 140 so I have been readin up on it. A recent article says...

"hold it 45 degrees from the joint and angled forward 10-15 degrees"

The article was in Feb '08 HotRod and sponsored by Miller

The existing fuel injection (ecm) will work with any of the available replacement intakes. A tune would of course be needed.

In the service area...

I used to be Chevy tech, still have all my tools and 1 1/2 car garage to do just about anything. I am pretty close to a few interstates in the northwestern VA area (81, 66, and 70)and have a trailer if things are really bad. Also, if anyone is going to Summit Point for a track day and need to do some major work over the weekend I'm only 30minutes from there.

disclaimer: 4 kids does make it a little hard to be ready to go at the drop of a hat

Sorry man, it has been so long since I've done it I can't remember exactly but we are talking millivolts. On older cars just a few, more modern cars with a few computers I think 30-50 can be expected.

I'll try to find the spec in my 85 manual...

I thought the brand was Scorpion.

IIRC he tried to go even further and found a set of 1.8's and did not have any gain over the 1.7

Where are Nathan and Glock?

[quote]Ok guy's hate to dredge this up again but... Can anyone point me to information on how to chase down an electrical leak, I guess. New battery and it's fine for a few days and then flat dead. As I stated before, I'm a wrench turner, not an electrician. I can set my tps sensor and small stuff like that and do have a digi-volt meter but no knowledge. Could you guy's suggest a web page or a book that will teach me auto-electrical? You know, how to find shorts, diagnose probs, etc. I appreciate all the help you guy's have given in the past and know I have alot to learn. Thanks again. :banghead]

Haynes has an electrical repair book. Non-vehicle specific, sounds like exactly what you are looking for, available at Amazon for $17. If you are going to tackle this type of stuff you will need to find diagrams for your car either a manual or even ALLDATA DIY online.

For your specific prob, you will ikely be putting an ammeter in-line (battery post to cable) and seeing what it reads when everything has fallen asleep. If the reading is high, start pulling fuses until it drops significantly. Your problem is on that circuit. From there it becomes a little vehicle specific in where to look...hence the need for diagrams. Beyond all the theory it's just electrons going from the red batt post looking for a ground. Their path directed by wires and switches.
