I do it every year to see how I am doing. Per the government, you get a free one every year. So why not do it?

It is just a great way to keep track of what creditors are throwing in your accounts.

It does not include a credit "score" however, but you can purchase one for $7.95 or less. I do it through Transunion.

Anyway, goto: www.annualcreditreport.com

Good luck!!!

Cool thanks. I always find stray accounts I didn't knew existed.

But it's hard to cancel them.

Per wikipedia:

"Credit inquiry effects on credit score

Using this service does not lower the consumer's credit score, as it counts as a "soft" credit pull. However, "hard" credit pulls made by lenders directly affect the borrower's credit score.

For more information see credit history and credit score.

Third-party fraud attempts

Annualcreditreport.com is the only federally mandated and authorized source for obtaining a free credit report. The Federal Trade Commission cautions consumers to be aware of “imposter” websites that have similar names or are deliberate misspellings of the real name."

Did mine earlier today. Damn. Left em at work too. The janitors are probably stealing my identity right now.

Anyways you have to click carefully on some of the screens, they try hard to sell you stuff.

You won't get your score on these, that's extra, but it shows you everything else.

I found some addresses on mine that I've never lived at.

I did mine and the wifey's the other day. Nothing bad on them, but like Kevin said, the companies will try to upsell you on credit scores, monthly bs, blah blah blah.

While I was messing around, I also got rid of the prescreened credit card junk. Check this out:

" To immediately reduce the number of credit card and insurance solicitations you receive, click here, or go to www.optoutprescreen.com.

If you decide that you don’t want to receive prescreened offers of credit and insurance, you have two choices: You can opt out of receiving them for five years or opt out of receiving them permanently. Call toll-free 1-888-5-OPTOUT (1-888-567-8688) or visit www.optoutprescreen.com for details."

I actually enjoyed those things for awhile.

I got 2 that were for 1.9% lifetime balance transfers and used both for all they were worth.

Not much since though, maybe using them ran my credit score back down.

I do have most of my junkmail cancelled, so I might do this too.

Geez, I wouldn't loan you 5 bucks.

What is the maximum? 850 or something?
