Matt,

I have read your great thread on replacing U-joints etc.. etc.

I'm finally getting my gears installed and torque converter.

I'm a little confused at all the options for U-Joints available from everywhere under the sun.

I know I'm buying non-grease fitting joints, but wanted to know which ones you bought.

Around here all I have been able to find are the Heavy Duty Neapco jobs from Advance Auto. Napa is more expensive and have way too many choices for one stinking car.

Any help appreciated. I'm looking for specific brands, and part no specific to half shaft joints and drive shaft joints. Napa even shows different PN for inside and outside Half-shafts?? ARen't they the same?

Don - I do recommend getting the non-greasable (without zerk fittings) due to the cramped space in the wheel hub. The u-joints for the inside/outside half shaft are identical. The u-joints for the drive shaft are a smaller size.

I personally used AC Delco u-joints. AFAIK they have both greasable and non-greasable available. When I redo them, I will either go with spicer or neapco. Sorry I don't have any part numbers handy, but here is a semi-recent thread:

Thanks guys - I guess I'll get the heavy duty Neapcos at Advance. The price is right and their website says they are the ones for aluminum driveshaft yokes too. I just never heard of Neapco before and I can't find the Spicer units local.

I'm also going to buy a trans oil cooler. Thinking about the B&M stacked plate variety and mounting it in front of the AC condenser at the base of the Big Mouth.

Do you guys think it will hurt to drive the car without the trans cooler for a while or should I get that on as soon as I install the TQ converter?

I don't think you'll have any problem driving without it.

You will be fine for a little while without the trans cooler as long as the outside temps are not sweltering hot, the converter isn't a huge stall converter, and you don't beat on it alot, and you still have it locking up on the highway. Put it in whenever you can though, the sooner the better.

The converter is a 9.5" 3000 stall converter from PeteK.

I ordered the B&M SuperCooler 70264 stacked plate design. It should be here next week. I also ordered the Derale cooling pan but its on backorder. I got to get this all done by October 16th. I'm taking the car to Ocean City, MD for the Show and Boardwalk Cruise with FreeState Corvette Club. We go every year and it would suck not to have my car done because parts didn't show up on time. Worse comes to worse, I stick the old pan back on and go.

I wouldn't be going too far on that convertor without a cooler; too much heat

Cooler should be here early this week. So I won't be driving the car until the 16th of October. That gives me time to hopefully get the work done and install the cooler and trans pan.
