I think I read somewhere that warm air or hot air coming out of the vents when the a/c is turned on could mean that that electronic door motor has failed and is shut, allowing only the hot air to blow through... is that correct?

That's one possibility. You could also have a bad head unit. Or be low on freon. Sorry to say it's time to do some diagnostics.

ahhhh now that you mention it, the head unit has been acting weird... the outside temperature display does not display the correct temp, and when I first turn on the car the light flashes for a minute or so before remaining solid... will definitely pass that info on to the mechanic....

There is a way to do self diagnostics on the system. I'll have to dig up the info later.
