here is the info on the car and a few more pics....

2010 Camaro 2SS, Inferno Orange Metallic, manual 6 speed, two toned orange and grey interior, and the RS package which includes sunroof, HID headlights, bluetooth, usb, and mp3 connectors. It is 1 of 341 cars with that combination of features. There were 4300 camaros produced and painted inferno orange metallic. There you have it....

my impressions so far.... this car is faster, quieter, and handles better than my vette. I attribute that to the advances in technology between 1993 and 2010... One review said the Camaro is like a nimble tank, and I suppose it is because it is definitely wider than my vette was, yet it doesn't feel overly large if that makes sense.... overall so far it is an awesome car and I am still learning its road characteristics. It pulls hard in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gear. After the break-in period I will have to try driving it with the stabili-trak off and competition mode on... It even has something called a launch button that I am anxious to try.... so that's my review so far...

Update.... the mechanic said the fuel regulator dumped fuel into the engine which mixed with the oil and even got into the exhaust system.... He was able to drain it, dry out the fuel (especially in the exhaust pipes), refill with oil and started it up after letting it sit for a day or so.... He said there was no engine damage and that I was lucky.... so that's the long and short of it....

I sold him the car, used the money for the downpayment on a 2010 Camaro 2SS 6 speed... its been great getting to know you guys.... take care...

I don't believe it's an expensive fix. With 275K on the clock there won't be people knocking down your door to buy it. You could get a pos daily driver and work the 93 into a weekend warrior. You know you'd miss it. But I can understand the recent let downs are working on your nerves a little. You know with the C4's it's always something. Why don't you just fix it and go give it a good spanking.

perhaps TommyT, but I test drove a new Camaro SS 6 speed today (cause my car is still in the shop), and I believe it would definitely take my mind off of my constantly needing repair C4.....

Was on my way to Ohio, just outside of Nashville the car stuttered, then in the rearview mirror I saw pale blue smoke, then white smoke, then the engine shutdown.... My mechanic said it appears the fuel regulator malfunctioned and sprayed fuel into the engine and everywhere else...

Two questions; 1, is this a problem that is easy to fix, and 2, how much would you ask for a 93 40th anniversary (275k on the clock)in decent condition?

ahhhh now that you mention it, the head unit has been acting weird... the outside temperature display does not display the correct temp, and when I first turn on the car the light flashes for a minute or so before remaining solid... will definitely pass that info on to the mechanic....

I think I read somewhere that warm air or hot air coming out of the vents when the a/c is turned on could mean that that electronic door motor has failed and is shut, allowing only the hot air to blow through... is that correct?

UPDATE: got the original cluster back, put it in... still not registering the speed... called my mechanic who looked up some stuff and informed me that the schematics are complex and that the signal for the speedometer go through at least 4 modules. Whatever the problem it will have to be scoped, so I will drop it off next week to run the diagnostics...

doing good Bogus, I peek in every now and again.... just working on the little annoying things that need repairing.... let's see, I've had the power window switch driver's side replaced, the exhaust manifold (driver's side) replaced, window guide passenger's side replaced, left side headlight motor, and those darn pins in the steering column.... gotta do the weatherstripping soon and maybe the stereo upgrade.... after that, then the engine...

Okay this is really weird. On my 93 my instrument cluster was acting funny, and I thought that it was going out as I've had one do that before. The speedometer will only display 0 for about 30 mins, after 30 mins the speedo displays the mph but it fluctuates between 5 miles under or over the actual speed. The other issue is while the speedo is only displaying 0 after about 10 mins the service engine light will come on, but will go off when the speedo starts displaying the mph. Additionally when its doing this the temperature display will also fluctuate from 200 degrees to 230 degrees back down to 210 and so forth.....

So I have had my original cluster sent off to be fixed, and I am about ready to install it... do you all think its the cluster causing the problems or something else?

I was about a two and a half car lengths, cause the debris had enough time to fly up in the air about 5 or 6 feet but not enough time to land back on the road, I slowed when I saw the stuff pop up.... since then I am giving cars like 4 car lengths or more to prevent the front end from being chewed up from rocks or whatever else is being kicked out from rear tires....

I am wondering if its not time for me to get a new radiator.... last week the average temp was about 95 degrees, heat index over hundred and with the a/c on my coolant temps were 220+.....got up to 235 degrees once or twice... with the a/c it stayed around 228..... one day the temperature outside was 100 and the coolant temp stayed in the 220 to 230 range... what do you all think?

this is what happens when you are traveling on the interstate at 70 mph (that's the story I am sticking to) and the SUV in front of you runs over a piece of semi-truck tire debris causing it to go airborne and land conveniently on the nose of the vette.... good thing I was going to have the nose repainted.... insurance took care of it, estimated damage 1800 bucks.... had a guy spray the whole thing with 4 coats of clear for $1850....

I want to pull the trigger and get the magnaflow catback exhaust. From what I have read, if I get the X-pipe that will reduce the resonance heard inside the car, is that true?

Sounds like your mechanic has his eyes on a new Corvette and wants you to pay for it.

Slotted & Drilled Rotors Front - $99.00 a pair
" " " Rear - 99.00

Hawk HPS pads (F&R) 165.00

Total parts cost - $363.00

And at that cost, you'll get lo dust pads that blow your mind compared to what you're running now.

thanks.... I am going to order the pads from Tire Rack tomorrow....

Since I don't do any track stuff I am not too concerned about cracking, as this is my daily driver. I talked to the guy tonight and he indicated that they do all the machine work there, and the warranty is for 12 months.....I probably will just buy the rotors and get the pads here locally... I initially talked to my mechanic about drilled rotors and pads (front and rear) and they gave me a price of 1100 bucks just for parts... I have done this math... and you are all debating the ROI.

Hot rodding, in general (meaning, is your name Chip Foose), is a bad ROI. Anything you buy is going to depreciate.

So, think about this:

You buy a 2001 Z06. Get it for $20k, put another $10 into the motor, you have $30k invested. 5 years from now, you would be lucky to have it worth $15k, tops. Remember, modified cars do not always sell for what they cost to build. That means that over the next 5 years, you will lose $15k.

Now, how long have you owned the 92?

If you take it, put the motor into it, you have actually HELPED it's value a little. The 92 is now worth about $6k, tops, so the depreciation has already been hit.

I would not do a 396, but a 383 will be a rocking good idea. I don't like the extra long stroke. A mild 383 with a super charger would be killer stout and be a lot nicer to drive. I 383 SC would be more expensive, yes, but the end result would be awesome.

Is your 92 a manual or automatic?

yeah I was missing you guys and I am saving my project money, because I am about ready to do this..... I have a 93 and its a automatic, I've had it for 8 yrs.... I could live with a 383 even supercharged as long as I can find a setup that is low maintenance.... Will I need to find someone to build the engine or does anyone know who sells something like that?

You're upside down anyways, who cares. Ride it out. Buy a fast car instead. Remember, you can sleep in your car, but you can't drive a house.

Clay - I'd like to hear more about what you would like to do to the vette

Matthew

the more I think about it the more I am leaning towards putting a 396 in it (the one I linked earlier), do the necessary suspension, brake, and tranny upgrades, and enjoy it.... as I said, while it may not be the fastest thing on the road, it will more than hold its own against these pesky imports and supercar wannabes....

will 10-15k get me a C5 with 500hp?

Well, they're getting closer to that.
There's an 01 Z06 for sale here, immaculate, garage kept, older guy with only 30k on it for $22. If you could get it for $19, I'd say it was a good deal.

One of my HPDE students bought a 01 Z06 last year ( when they were higher priced) in the same condition for $23.

Wish I had $22 laying around.

interesting.... though to be honest I don't like the look of the C5 Z06.... if I were going for broke it would have to be a C6 Z06..... in the meantime however.....sticking a big engine in a C4 is looking like it could be fun...

To put an engine in that's worth more than the car? Of course it'd do-able. Dont forget any transmission and other upgrades too.

I don't mean to be a smartass. I am guilty of spending more on my cars than they are worth.

I didn't take your comment as such... I guess its 6 and 1/2 dozen of the other as my mother would say... would I like an 06 or an 07 C6 Z06 that comes with 505 hp, I sure would, however, I don't have 50k-60k to drop on one...will 10-15k get me a C5 with 500hp? I look at it from the sleeper factor.... yeah it won't be the fastest thing on the road, but it may surprise a few snobs here and there...

I know exactly the smell you are talking about! Last Friday I started smelling a "burnt wire" type of odor coming thru the vents. My first thought was that a rodent or some varmit had chewed thru a wire. Everything was working fine so I dismissed that first panic thought. I pulled out the blower motor and after one good sniff, I knew that was it. Only thing odd about mine was the fan worked fine, with no noise. But regardless it was bad.

was it easy to replace?

I have had Vredestein tires on for a year and about 25,000 miles.... they have been good, really good in the rain... the rear tires are starting to get loud so I know they will have to be replaced soon... the front tired have plenty of tread left, and yes I have the staggered sizes... 315 in the read 285 on the front...

thanks for the feedback... I have a 93.... the display works, in that I can change the temp readout and the fan speed.... just no fan... I think the fan is shot... I believe a week or so ago I smelled a faint burnt metallic smell, which probably was the fan going south since I have not smelled that smell since....

I think mine is dying or dead..... I can still change the temperature but it doesn't sound like the fan is working... are those the usual symptoms?

When something goes down, ya' gotta' fix it now.

Other problems tend to get caught ahead of time when you fix one. But if you leave a problem, it will behave like a gray hair, or a fly uh-huh.

Swat a fly, it divides, and ya' got 2 of 'em. Pull a gray hair, you get 2 'of 'em.

I suppose... I generally give performance problems priority.... some of the little ones I wait to handle them together.... but no real complaints, with over 230k miles it has been a relatively trouble free car....

The time to get rid of it is when you are tired of it? Think of it now, some cars have body off restorations completely rebuilt and like new. If you enjoy fixing it and driving it then you can't throw enough money at it. If it uses too much gas, rides rough, makes noise, it may be time.
you mean there are C4s out there that don't make noise or ride rough? LOL I never knew that, I thought they all did that, some more than others......
