Can anyone tell me if I can put 275/60/15s on the rear of my 78 vet w/o altering the body? The mfg spec reports 225/70/15, 255/60/15 for this year. Does this say 225/70/15 or 255/60/15s could have come on all 4 wheels. Does it mean 255/60/15s on the rear with 225/70/15s on the front?

Hang tight. The answer will come. Check back from time to time.

Better yet, take a look around the C3 forums or Corvette Chat. You can also jump in Off Topic while your waiting for a reply.

I know a guy who tracks his 78, he does have problems with larger tires rubbing the fenders in the turns but I don't know the sizes he's running.

Unfortunately I have no experience with 275s. My last set were 255/60R15s on all fours, on the stock rims (8" with no offset). I would get an occasional slight rub in the front during tight turning (usually parking), but I don't recall anything close at all in the rear. And I don't think there is any significant difference in the '76 and '78 fenders around the wheel wells.

As far as the mfg spec question, I really don't know. But I'm pretty sure mine came from the factory with 225s.

Thanks for the heads-up. Do you like the 255s on your car?

They were Goodyear Eagles, looked nice and handled decently, no complaints.

But I've been running Kumho Ecsta ASX 235/60R16 on 16x8 rallys since last spring, and they stick MUCH better than the GYs.
