Hi Guys!

Does anybody here parhaps work in some international
shipping company?

I have a bit of the problem! I would like to buy ZF-6
transmission with all the parts needed for auto - manual
conversion. I have found a few deals, but shipping is allways
the problem. Nobody offers overseas shipping.

I've tried to contact DHL, Fedex and similar, but their
prices are crazy. Only hipping would cost transmission X 2.

There are some solutions to send the parts in cargo
container, but I just don't know how to organize this
from here.

So if anybody have any experience or idea how I could
organize this, please let me know.

Thanks!

Try an airline, and do cargo. If someone could pick up the stuff for you, I am sure they could take it to an airline that flies there. Just a thought.

Well, my experience with ocean freight has been, calculate close to €300.- from port to port. With all the minimums and handling fees you can ship 50 lbs or 2 tons at the same rate.
Probably makes sense to check into airfreight.
Where in the US are your parts?

We had this conversation some months back... I suggested using air freight for the reasons outlined - it's cheap!

However, isn't your nearest airport kind of far?

Where in CA are the parts now?

ok... that's down by San Diego...

What airport is local to you?

This is what I can do, but won't be able to until early next week - I will head over to LAX and check with United Air Cargo. They are as big as big gets with all their partnerships. Delta may not be a bad idea, too.

I would suggest that your vendor box these in at least 4 packages, one with ONLY the transmission; one with the c-beam and driveshaft; one with pedals, bellhousing hydraulics and finally, one with the clutch and accessories.

This will keep individual package weight down.

Once I get an estimate, we can go from there, but I won't be able to do this until next week.... see my other post for my lame excuse.

Thank you very much for your help.
I'm in no hurry.

I've also contacted a friend of a friend who lives in
Sacramento. He told me that he'll be sending a car to
Croatia soon and that maybe he'll be able to send my parts
along with it.

The airport near me is Pleso, Zagreb

oooh... if he is sending a car, that would be the best bet. The parts would just go into the car, front him a couple hundred bucks for this troubles, and move on.

I will check the airfreight option next week.

It looks like this deal with a friend of a friend will go
through, so he'll be sending me the trans.
I'll have to wait for a few months but I'm in no hurry and
transport will be almost for free.

Just to let you know, so that you don't waste your time.
But thank you very much for your help anyway!

oh, ok!

I think, just so we know, I will check it out anyway. Incase your friend has a change of plans, you should know the costs.

And if nothing else, it will be info for others. To be absolutely honest, I have been curious about this method of shipment...

I won't rush, but I will still get some answers.

That sounds good! If it won't be a hassle for you, it's allways good to know this infos! I'm buying parts from USA a few times a year and I have a few friends here who also drive US cars. It's not a problem for small packages, but big and heavy packages are problem because USPS won't send them.
