HAWAIIZR-1 Help with CHMSL (Center High Mount Stop Lamp?) to LED

Okay, I have a 90 ZR-1 with the CHMSL and read about changing the bulbs to LEDs. Everywhere that I did research including the factory service manual indicates that there are two torx head screws on the underside of the hatch. My understanding is 86-90 coupes and 90-95 ZR-1s have these, but it is beyond me as to why mine does not have screws on the underside. I did not get a chance to take a photo but looked again and again and could not find any way to take off the housing to get to the bulbs even if I had to replace a burnt bulb. What the heck am I missing here? I even saw some photos on some forums with the housing off for LED upgrade and understand where the screws should be located with the glass hatch open. Please help me solve this mystery. Thanks in advance and I'll try to post a photo tomorrow.

If I remember correctly, you have to remove the plastic roof center piece to gain access to the CHMSL. Once removed you can see what needs to be done.

I was wondering the same but not sure what the purpose would be? My thoughts were if there a replacement of the hatch glass to a different model year that did not have the CHMSL and the glass design covers the holes to the light housing? Anway, pics are in order and wondering what it is supposed to look like so I'll take them in a few.

I'm confused and will feel like a real putz if this is right in front of my face. Unless is is a snap on style I don't understand and just confused because of reading everywhere that there are two screws that I don't see. Posting pics next, but I have to wake up first.

Okay, here are a few pics of the top and from the underside. I just don't see it and also used a mirror to look at the piece toward the front of the car after the glass to make sure there were not any screws up there. Thanks for the tips.

Here's a quick shot of the underside on an 86 - iPhone pic so it ain't great quality. I circled the Torx screws in blue. My 90 is a Vert so I don't have any pics of that year.

Dale1990,

Thank you very much and that really helps. What the heck is going on with mine? I suspect something happened to the rear hatch glass and replaced with different part number of a non CHMSL unit but how it is held on then? Wow, I can rebuild my car from the ground up but I can't even figure out how to change the bulbs? The middle mount for the glass on my photo I don't see on yours and maybe mine is held on by that next to where the wire is, but that still does not make sense.

I agree. I think your rear glass isn't the right bit...

I see the wiring goes inside the roof. I guess that's why I had to drop the plastic. To disconnect the clip. Sorry about the misinfo.
