I have an '03 Sierra 1500, 2wd that is my DD. It has a problem with the ABS that keeps intermittently showing the ABS light,
complete with the bell. At times I feel it thru the pedal, sometimes not, whether the light/bell is on or not. But the most regular thing I notice is that if I come to an intersection stop and there's roughness in the road, that will usually set it off, if not immediately. I know there's a code reader you can get for this sort of thing, but I'm not sure where to get it, or what it's actually called. Any help you guys might have is appreciated either on the brakes, or the tool. Fwiw, I'm thinking it's the RF sensor to the wheel. But, then again, I'm often WAY wrong. |

it's going off when braking over bumps? Or going off randomly?
The tool is a TECH IV, off to the dealer you go... unless you have an independent mechanic with a Snapon or Gencomm(?) equivalent. If the ABS is getting all funny when braking, I ask... how old are the tires? When they get old an hard, it makes the ABS more sensitive. |

You can feel it in the pedal sometimes when you go over ripple in the road surface, sometimes the pedal will get sorta spongy, maybe the bell/light come on. If the sponginess/bell/light all happen, the light will stay on for a while, usually until you park it. Then it will often come on at next start up, but then go out shortly thereafter.
Sometimes you can be driving on the smooth highway and it'll come on. Sometimes for a while, sometimes until you stop and later restart. This is goofy, isn't it? |

Does it come on while you are braking on a dry road, like coming up slowly to a stop sign? Rick and I were talking about this problem a couple of weeks ago with Mike from the forum.
Here's an example: http://www.chevytalk.org/fusionbb/showtopic.php?tid/225584 |

it has done that, but in that scenario it's more likely if there's a bit of gravel under the right front, of if there is an uneven or rippled surface. I read in that link there was a recall and the '03 Sierra is included. I wouldn't expect the recall to still be active. |

don't be surprised. Recalls stay alive for a long time. Check with your Chevy dealer. Worst they can do is say no.

While I was out and about today, I stopped at a dealer w/ Saturday hours. He checked, they said, "no." |
