block is back from rebuilders and back in the car. i have the 700r4 bolted up to the block with the 6 bolts and the 3 flexplate bolts connected to the crankshaft. i noticed that the trans is slightly to the passenger side by about 1/32"
it's on the dowel pins. didn't notice how it was before i removed the engine.

my question is does it matter if the outside shell of the trans is a little off as along as everything bolts up ok and it's on the dowel pins? or do i need offset dowel pins, or is that only needed for manual transmissions.

thanks in advance!

could there be debris in the hole or on the pin? seems odd to me, but it could also be age or a warping of the trans case...

Personally, I would bet on a bet trans case ahead of a bent block face... cast iron vs aluminum?

When it's on the pins is the shaft on the trans aligned with the crank?

Take some measurements with the trans off.

thanks for the replies! i think i will unbolt everything and try again. is it possible to install the transmission dowel pins wrong? maybe they are bent? i just tapped them in w/a small hammer into the block. maybe they are not out far enough
