Just checking with you guys for any info on this replacement mast. Anybody use them or heard of the quality?
I've seen the name around on a few sites and appears to be OK.

Me neither. What's wrong with your antenna?

Mast won't extend fully or retract all the way down.

Don't feel bad, happens to a lot of men as they get older

Back on topic....I haven't heard of that website. But if it is OEM and comes with the mast nut socket you can't go wrong.

To replace the mast, you will need some help... someone to turn the radio off and on.

Remove the nut (tool should come with).

Turn on the radio and pull the mast out as the mast comes up.

Compare the 2 nylon toothed ribbons for length. If it's too broken, then you need to remove the unit and take it apart to remove the busted ribbon. If it's pretty close, there is enough room for extra to be in there.

Then feed in the new ribbon, and turn off the radio, gently pushing the mast down.

Replace the nut, tighten accordingly.

Here is the rub... if the new mast does the same thing, the gear and or clutch is shot.

And if that is true, there's a guy who fixes them ...

good idea if originality is important.

personally, I am going to ditch the power and get a short mast, like what is on many newer cars.

I really like the 4" masts...

one must be very careful how one words this discussion... one wrong move and BAM! innuendo's fly...

Luckily, no one on this site would ever twist words or phrases to make them sound humorous.

I had planned on just removing the unit, drilling out the rivets and remove the broken mast. I might just try the easy way first, just depends on how lucky I feel!

I was wondering why more folks don't do that. Do the shorter masts not work as well? What about the few vehicles that had the antennae wire on the perimeter of the front windshield? Anyone tried that one?

Years ago in another time I remember the company I was working for burying multiple antennas all over a corvette GM sent to them. We did a lot of rf stuff and it was an interesting project at the time. I wasn't involved in it at all just observed. It was fun and interesting.

I finally decided to install this new mast. The ribbon had broken off at the bottom of the mast, so no quick fix. Removed the unit, and I might add it was a PITA!
Looked like it might have been changed at some point, there were no plastic rivets holding the halves together. Had screws around the perimeter with a nut on a stud in the middle.
While it was apart, I just fed the new ribbon down the tube and into the motor. I then wound the excess into the "cartridge". A little like installing a new rope on a lawn mower.

It works fine right now, goes up and goes down.

I've still got to put the trim and speaker cover back on, plus the slide track for the cargo shade.
