we got the ac running about a month ago and it seemed to work fine . now I try to turn it on and it seems like the motor drags down like the compressor is kicking on . the engine cooling fans come on but the blower motor wont come on . I cked for code as the fsm says to and show no trouble codes . I dont have the wiring book to ck the switches to see if they re good can someone guide me to where to look. oh I double cked to see if she had a charge with the gauge that comews with the refill kit and it says 40 on the gauge .

What year is this again?

So the blower motor doesn't blow anything out of the vents?

Does the blower motor work on the heat mode?

There should be a fuse for the a/c system, but without checking the FSM I believe that's for the compressor. The blower motor fan is controlled by the blower control module that is in the top of the evaporator housing. They are known to go bad. Easiest way to check it is to swap it for a good spare if you have one. Otherwise there is a troubleshooting flow chart in the FSM. I don't have the diagram handy, I will try to look later.

Part # 16061602 (original) may have been superseded.

The most common fault would be to the resistor that controls the blower. You are saying there is no fan? What about high speed?

If that's the case, the resistor needs replaced.

Otherwise, hows tricks?

the resistor is by the battery correct ?//I am not the smartest apple on the tree with electrics.i am doing a little better . it seems what the doctors are doing is helping ,. it hs tken a little time to get used to living on 1200 a month. if I get feeling little better I can maybe pickup a part time job to help supplement things. right now have to try to figure out this air condition and primary fan motor thing . I replaced the fan motor and it still doesn't work . it is 110 here daily aqnd that doesn't make it esay to work on the car .

Now are you referring to the engine cooling system, or the hvac fan?

time to check relays for those fans.

Also, check the fusible links behind the battery.

they are rather easy, really.

Check behind the battery, there are a bunch of orange-ish (sorta red) wires. If one is broken, that's your fusible link.

What I did was convert from a fusible link to maxifuses. These have the same slow-blow properties as a fusible link, but are easier to service.

I got a handful from the local salvage yard for a buck...

The wire thickness establishes the amp rating, for the most part.

The fan wires worked out to 40 amps each. So I put an insulated 1/4" female connector on the trimmed wire to the fan in question and made a pigtail to the battery junction block, crimped accordingly, touched with some solder, and plugged in the fuse!

So far, so good. I did three of them the same way. 2 fans, and I am not sure what the third one was, but it was a little thinner gauge wire, so I went to 30 amp for it. I cut it by accident, so I figured I might as well fix it the right way.

I did this last year sometime. Great success.
