I don’t recall very many small block Chevy intake manifolds with cooling crossover at the back of the heads. Some intakes do, but it seems to be predominant that they’re closed off. By my twisted way of thinking it would only help with allowing the engine to have a more consistent temperature if they were plumbed into the return system into the radiator.
Any thoughts?

I agree. Maybe that's why so many l98s suffer head gasket failures at the #7 cylinder?

I did a google search and there was a thread on this topic on one ofe the Chevelle forums. It seemed to be inconclusive, unless you had Siamesed cylinders, it helped with steam and evened out the temps.

I can’t help but believe it would help. Especially in the warmer parts of the globe. Like most things, it’s probably a good idea that went away because of production costs.
