All,
I've read through the FSM proceedure for R&R of the master cylinder and eyeballed it with the battery removed.

Can you think of any tips, tricks, or gotchas that I should know before I start?

FWIW I've done the slave before and found it fairly easy to do.

Thanks,
-Chris

Get the cast aluminum master. The pistons used are anodized aluminum, and if there's moisture in there it will corrode the steel DOM master cylinder offered by ACDelco, Raybestos, etc.

My slave cylinder was BADLY pitted from corrosion and wouldn't hold pressure. Now on slaves, you want the cast steel one, as it has a steel piston. The DOM steel ones have an aluminum pistons. Aluminum and steel don't get along.

Thanks, CC.

I should have asked which one to order before I ordered one. I went with the lifetime warranty one from Raybestos via Advance's website.

The slave is about a year old and is a delco.

The current master functions just fine but it shows rust and it's 15 years old this month so I'm changing it pre-emptively because I know it's plotting against the man. You know how teenage parts get they know nothing and everything at the same time.

Hang onto the one you've got anyways. I've seen older pics of the Delco units with steel pistons, which is good.

Just flush out your clutch fluid on regular intervals, maybe every year or so? Most people don't, I don't.
