Couple of ya' probably already know the problem - what did you do to work around it?

Options are:
Cut the (+) post down.
Notch the bracket that the post is in contact with.
Shim the battery so it is tipped forward.

The bracket had just gouged the (+) post plastic cover, and he was gettin' ready to plug it in. CLOSE call - woulda' been a BAD scene.

First thing we thought of was shimmin' the tray. But every tray bolt is off-plane with the battery, so that won't work.

Then we tried the shim method at the Advance / Zone. The clamp bolt at the rear of the battery base is long enough to still clamp the battery, if it is shimmed up about 3/8", which is how much is necessary for the post to be off of the bracket.

He cut up the adapter bracket, and it gave only about 3/16". Didn't get it, so we put my battery back in, and I'm listenin' for other suggestions...

How did you do yours?

Chuck,

I never have used the Optima, just because of the issues you are having. However, MrMojo had a thread a long time ago where he cut off the posts enough for clearance and then insulated them.

I'm not sure there is much to gain from the Optimas unless you have a ton of vibration, then you will need a better battery mount anyway.

I've read mostly about the cutting the post method. One of the reasons I like my cheap Fleet Farm side-terminal battery ;-)

Takin' down the post seems the concensus.

But, if it turns out to be bad for any reason, will warranty be a problem?

What kind of physical load does that bracket support - the one with that horn-lookin' gig on it, next to the PCM?

Anybody know? What is that thing anyway???

I took it back.

I can't hack my brackets, and if I hack the battery, the warranty is void, so they said. I bought an Autocraft Titanium.

Cheapie? Hardly. $82.:surprised
