Well, I must say the race was phenomenal. Peugeot brought over one of their 908 cars to battle the Audi R10. Mazda was their with their new closed cockpit car which had a bad ending on the practice session before the race on Saturday.

Any of you who are in this area need to show up for the race. It is a blast!

Anyways on with the pictures.

Highlight of the evening was heading over to Johnny O's house after the race to shoot the shit. He was pretty tired after the race and didn't want to go out after the race., so he invited the 5 of us over.

Shot is of his trophy from the 24 Hours of Le Mans from this year.

I can answer that question:

I was at the Petersen on Thursday night, they held a tribute to Corvette Racing. Doug Fehan, lead of Corvette Racing explained the new GT class.

In short, the new class will align both the AOC and FIA GT classes. This will also end the current 2 class structure. The new car is currently being raced in GT2.

Even tho the engine is smaller, it should loose a lot of the restrictors, so the power should not be that much off. Realize that the 7 litre GT1 engine, rated at 610hp, when uncorked is good for over 900hp (Johnny O. told me this). So shrinking it should not make a huge difference. If anything, the RPMs will go up and the power should stay very close. Also, since the new class will have its own power limit, it don't matter. A smaller version of the same engine should have endurance out the wazoo.

GT2 which they're going into next year, uses engines which are a lot closer to stock. Should make it interesting. Not to meantion it will be nice for them to have competition.

that's the thing - according to Doug, these are destroked racing C6R engines. Not closer to stock. Perhaps in size.

Yep, using the 7.0L block destroked down to the 6.2 limit. Nothing will be affected for next years series. The big push is for 2010.

Next year the C6R will appear at Sebring, Long Beach and then Le Mans. The new GT2 car will surface at select races after Le Mans. I plan on being at Sebring, LB and already have a house booked in france as well as plane tickets for the 24 hour race.
