I called Chris @ Superior Chevy this week... I asked him about LT1 crate motors and such.

He did a quick inventory check... get this - GM has THREE NOS LT1s in a warehouse somewhere!

These are specifically 1st gen LT1s, for a Corvette, 1992-1994. These are NEW engines, not remans!

And he can get me one for a real deal... $4800!!!!!!!!!

Someone at GM is smoking crack...

Sounds like a decent deal to me mate, would be almost like having a new car again!!

The first gen LT1 engines are 92-93, 94 was an improved engine, 95 had a couple very minor upgrades too.

For that price I would imagine that there would be a better upgrade option.

Golan has an entry level 383 that they are selling for $5200.

It kinda puts that price into perspective.

The 94's biggest upgrade was external - the better ECU, but the biggest change came in 95 with the gen 2 opti.

Otherwise, the 92-94 LT1 is the same piece.

There is abit more to it than that, the intake is different, the fuel rail is different, the injectors are different, and towards the later 1/4 of the 94 production the rods changed to a powdered metal. I think youll find the cam specs may even be a touch different in 94 as well, but im not certain on that.

They did change the cam in 1993.

However, this is a long block without intake or accessories. So those changes are not relevant.

As for the powered rods, I would expect it has those, simply because the engine is listed as being for 1992-1994 Corvette, which leads me to believe it's a later build. And as far as long blocks, that will fit with zero problems.

Holy crap! You only get the long block for $4800??!?!?? What a rip! Screw the entry level 383 from Golen- if you find some deals, I bet you could buy a used block and heads, machine the block and work the heads, AND get a really nice forged/balanced rotating assm, AND a cam and a good valvetrain for $5000 or less.

I am in a wait state with the motor project... I can't seem to make up my mind, so I need to start focusing on it after the new year. Too much going on at once.

I hear ya! There's never enough time to play with the vette on my end, either. I want to tear into my motor, too, but I fear it would be a loooong project.

I woundt buy a motor that hasnt been turned over in that many years.

You ca get a better motor with stronger parts these days for pretty reasonable.

I wonder who the buyer would be - the block won't be numbers matching, so it won't help any FCR folks. Bogus is right that there are better choices out there for the same amount of cash.

It does make me wonder what else is sitting there, though ...

I suspect the motor will go out the door to some "friend" of the wearhouse manager...

Otherwise, it is utterly pointless.

A real fear is that a Corvette owner, who is not very savvy will be sold that at a dealership...
