I just added a 200watt 2 channel amp to my Kenwood system. My Kenwood head unit has an aux input for MP3 players on the faceplate. The amp install was painless, but I get a buzzing sound through the speakers when I plug my MP3 player in. If I move the player around (it has a long patch cable) the feedback comes and goes. Any ideas? The system sounds great using the tuner or the CD.

Sounds like your mp3 player is picking up electrical interference. Could be from a variety of power sources including the wiring from the amp or the distributor. I'd figure out where it's coming from and either shield that source or keep the mp3 player where it won't pick it up.

Sounds to me like there is a small problem in the cable where it plugs in to the MP3 player or the jack in the MP3 player is faulty. Try a new cable first...because they are cheaper, and then try a friend's MP3 player. Rule those out or in, and then move on to outside interference or a problem with the head unit. |

You may also need to lower the gain on the amp. Perhaps it's just too hot and is picking up noise.
I have installed a lot of stereos... from a lot of brands, including Kenwood, and I have found that Kenwood is very prone to picking up noise. I did a Kenwood install in my Mom's Accord back in the early 90s. It had a buzz I could never get rid off... until I put an Alpine head unit in it. Just a thought... |
