I have been experiencing trouble starting my '93 for some time now and it has since become worse. I have also read of others having the same problem. My Vette would start and run normally then I would get a "SYS" flashing along with the "service ASR" light and the "security" light flashing. If this occurs while the Vette is running, it will continue to run normally, but if I shut her off, she will not re-start. I would have to wait a few minutes and then the Vette would start and after a few minutes I would get the same lights. If these lights are presant at start, the vette will not start. I just finished my 383, and now I can't drive it because of this...(this was happening before the 383) I have seen a few other owners that have reported this same exact problem on '93 Vettes...any ideas? and were can I get an ECM?

No, i dont think its VATS yet.
The SYS indicator flashes on the LCD to indicate the presence of a DTC in the CCM module. What you need to do is follow this: http://www.c4guru.com/articles/CCMCodePull.pdf and report back with the list of DTCs you pull out of this rig, including what module they came from. From there, we can diagnose this car properly, and hopefully save you from wasting money by replacing something that is probably fine. As a starting point along with the DTCs, i would get the battery load tested, and also the alternator. |

I had a lot of electrical problems during the last few years. Several times signs pointed me to the ECM. However, I spoke with many experts and found that it is extremely uncommon for them to go bad. It can happen, but it's probably not the issue.
As Case suggests, let's diagnose this properly and hopefully save you some money. I've priced them, and the ECM itself is available (reconditioned) for $150-200. If it's the PROM it's about $200. Anotherr thing you can do is try your ECM in someone else's 1993 and see if they get the same lights. But don't put a known good one in your car just in case you have a real problem which could damage it... |
