I know this is a far reaching question. I have 89 convertable with the low end delco radio and tape player. I would welcome suggestions for replacement for it. I want it to look decent in the car, fit readily and of course sound good. Volume is not a great issue so I do not need high powere amp, etc., just good clear sound. Single CD or CD changer with NO tape player. I do not have a brand prefferance but would like to do it with cost in mind. Thanks.

I'm not sure how involved you'd like to get, but there are several posts on here in the audio section, including my 89 stereo and speaker replacement. You can go crazy or just take it easy. You're actually better off with the low end stereo, the bose (upgraded) stereo usually sees a lot of failures by this point. Sift through some of the posts and it will give you an idea where to start.

My car does not have speakers in the doors! It has front speakers mounted in the top of the dash and rears are mounted in the floor just behind the seats. There is what appers to be an amp mounted between the rear ones also on the floor. Is this factory or has someone already changed things around. New to having a convertable last on was 89 coupe with bose that actually worked. Thanks again four your help. Just a quick question not pertaining to this. How rare are the hard tops for 89 convertable.

Welcome!
You have a convertable, eh? You can still put speakers in the doors... not a problem. |

You can still put speakers in the doors. If there's an amp there already, someone added it. Should make it easier to upgrade stuff.
As far as the hardtop, do you want one or you have one? You can buy a good shape hardtop with the appropriate attaching hardware around 800-1200 depending on if you find a good deal or not. In 1989, 1573/9749 convertibles came with the hardtop. But other years had them as well and they are interchangeable. Matthew |
