I know mine is magic. Last Monday on my way to work at about 60 mph a deer jumped in front of me, I hit brakes, then hard left, then hard right, then hard left to get back in my lane and steered around her. I looked in my mirror and the deer was standing in the road watching me leave, probably wondering what that low black thing was that buzzed her. My little 89 C4 convertable saved the day and my butt.

Look at Kelly Blue Book it seems to be more realistic on older cars than NADA. www.kbb.com Oops sorry they only go back 20 years on used car prices.

You guys do not realize how much a post like this helps others. I have new pads and braided lines that I was going to put on this week on my 89. This post caused me to put it on hold until you solved the problem. If I happen to have the same problem I now know where to look and what to do. Thanks for sharing.

Could be a zillion things.Perhaps cam bearing or distributor drive gear if it is bronze. I would first pull the bistributor and check that, not a big job. Then if you still find stuff in the oil drop the pan and undo rod caps and check rod bearings, perhaps replace the rod cap bolts with better quality bolts while you are there. If you find a damaged rod bearing then look at the crank for scars, etc. If crank looks good replace the rod bearings. If you pull the pan remove the oil pump and check it out and perhaps replace it while you are there. Then check the mains same way. I would first run her some and then check oil again. Good luck my money would be on the bronze distributor gear as I have had that happen. Use Mobil 1 oil.

I just stopped drag racing motorcycles at age 68 my joint pains, etc. made it not fun anymore. Bike was 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa streached 8 inches lowered 4 inches allout drag bike. I ran some AMA races and all SEMDRA for the past 5 years. Bike, with big motor turned mid to low 5's 1/8 mile and mid to low 8's 1/4 mile. With stock motor low 6's 1/8 and high 9's 1/4. Various other stuff done to bike for racing but that pretty much describes it. Now I am playing with my just aquired 89, triple black 6 speed convertable with 42,000 miles and hardtop. Old guys got to have fun too. I still have a need for speed!

It is great how how government can decide all our Corvettes are clumkers. Just think I can take my 89 6 speed convertable with removable hardtop and 42000 miles to a car dealer and get $3500.00 for it if I trade it in on a little gas efficent car. They say it avareges 19 miles per gallon, I get 24.5 or better all the time, guess I got an unusuall one. Wonder if I could get GM to sell me a 2010 ZR1 for $3500.00 since it is just a new clunker.

Here is what I do to let tension off the belt tensioner. I purchased a cheap 1/2 inch pull handle that has a screw holding the 1/2 inch drive head to the handle. Remove the screw and put the 1/2inch piece into the tensioner then sinply slip the handle over it without the screw. When finished pull the 1/2inch piece out and re-attach it to the pull handle with the screw to keep all parts together. Bought mine at flea market for $2.00.

Speakers are 4 X 6 2 incehes deep. Dash pad is a little hard to get out and back in, you just have to wiggle and push and pull it. Watch for the small spring clip on the right side towards instrument panel, it can be a pain to get in place. Thanks guys for your help I now have sound in the car!!! I am looking for a CD changer that plays through the FM radio, is there such a thing , my xm radio does it, and which one do you suggest. I just don't want to do a bunch of wiring for it. My hearing is not so great and wife wears 2 hearing aids so fidelity is not as important as just hearing the music. Again THANKS your help has been great and appreciated.

Mike

These cars are like an old woman, if you ignore them for a while they will revolt and leave you walking. If you are going to let it sit put some gas treatment in the tank and get a small trickle charger to hook to the battery. Never leave it with a small amount of gas in the tank as small amount will go bad faster than at least half a tank. Leaving a car sitting is the worst thing you can do, drive it some to keep everything lubed and operating. Treat her good and ride in her once in a while and all will be good with the world.

I just put one in yesterday 180 degree. Car now runs at 179 to 181 degres without air on and 189 to 192 with air running. I have not been in heavy stop and go traffic yet so no info on that. I live in South Georgia and weather has been at 100 and more for a couple of weeks. This is a reduction of 10 to 15 degrees and oil temp is also lowered by the same amount. I am pleased with it. I work on motorcycle so I am used to burping cooling systems to get air out. Keep the tank to required level and be certain radiator cap is correct and working properly and it will take care of itsef after initial burping. This is my secong 1989 Vette and I had the same results from previous one.

Thank guys. From your info I have found that the wheels that are on my car are Enkei brand, they are 5 spoke 2 piece wheels (Center section is bolted to the rim) Wheel is natural aluminumand centers are painted gold. Thay have some curb scars and a couple of small dents in the outer edge. Are they worth fixing and some paint chipping on the centers.? If I decided to fix them will the bolts actually comeout so I can divide the wheels to have centers powder coated and polish wheels. Thanks again you guys are somethng else.

Got some stuff called Plastic Magic made by ZAINO from Ecklers. The stuff works GREAT, I now have a crystal clear rear window in my convertable top. Just followed the instructions and took about 15 minutes with 2 applications to do the job. Time includes time to let it dry to haze. I give it a thumbs up.

My car does not have speakers in the doors! It has front speakers mounted in the top of the dash and rears are mounted in the floor just behind the seats. There is what appers to be an amp mounted between the rear ones also on the floor. Is this factory or has someone already changed things around. New to having a convertable last on was 89 coupe with bose that actually worked. Thanks again four your help. Just a quick question not pertaining to this. How rare are the hard tops for 89 convertable.

I know this is a far reaching question. I have 89 convertable with the low end delco radio and tape player. I would welcome suggestions for replacement for it. I want it to look decent in the car, fit readily and of course sound good. Volume is not a great issue so I do not need high powere amp, etc., just good clear sound. Single CD or CD changer with NO tape player. I do not have a brand prefferance but would like to do it with cost in mind. Thanks.
