No, it won't be a C4!

I have $8k to spend, he needs a car to get him to work and school, (college). I've been looking at the used Corollas, Sentras, Civics and Accents. I'd consider a Cavalier, Sunfire or Focus.

I see a lot of Saturn ION's and a bunch of Cobalts. I've been told the Cobalts are crap. Not sure about the ION?

Any words of wisdom for me?

Ion is the saturn version of the cobalt.

When time comes for me to get a commuter car Im going to look into VW passat

Great on gas.

If you can get the TDI for better mpg but either way 40mpg is not out of the norm for the gas engine

take a look @ wagons

They're usually cheaper than sedans

and you get to pack it up with all the stuff needed for college.

or use it as the 'party wagon' on weekends

He doesn't go that far. The commute is 10 miles each way. So economy is nice but not critical. I haven't been looking at VWs because I heard their quality had really fallen off, and they are expensive to repair.

And here I go hijacking my own thread. My daugher's fiance brought by a car he's thinking of buying. A 2011 Hyundai Sonata 6 speed. Holy cow is that thing nice.

Avoid old hyundai's they are weak.

Also check into a prelude. Last generation.

If you get him a honda DONT let him put on the rice can exhaust.

VW have come along way. The early 2000s had electrical issues but have gotten rid of most of those issues from what I have heard.
