Guys need your input. Took the 87 out this morning before the rain. When accelerating from a stop light the engine reaches a flat spot when upshifting around 30-40. This situation is erradic once I push down on the gas it kicks down and accelerates fine. WTF no codes, total tune up last summer, seems like its straving for fuel, new pump, fuel filter has 3,000 miles on it. Engines never dies, Acts like the old big block chevys with a Quad Jet when the accelerator pump was going bad. Any thoughts!

A few things come to mind, Ron. It could be fuel related but I doubt it if it only happens at one specific point. I'd lean towards electrical or ignition. I found a flat spot in my acceleration was caused by a bad maf that was intermittent. Also check plugs/wires/cap. A good datalog can help you narrow it down by comparing values. Also, for s&g make sure your tv cable is adjusted right.

Sounds like you need to adjust the TV Cable.

The attached JPG should give you an idea!

Basically, you push the D-shaped tang down, pull the cable out, then floor the throttle. It self sets, sorta.

Just don't do this with the engine running!

When you described the problem as feeling like "a bad accelerator pump", I remembered my 89 did this years ago. My problem was the TPS had a dead/weak spot in it also around 30-40 mph. I don't remember the RPM range now, been too long ago. Can you scan the voltage from the no throttle position thru a smooth opening of throttle? Should raise steady from approx. .54 volts to approx 4.8/5.0 volts.

Glad it was simple! The cable stretches over time and falls out of adjustment.

Does that mean I will need to change your handle to something like "cranky"?
